VA chief says missing laptop containing vets' data has been found.
Update:
WASHINGTON - The missing laptop and hard drive that contained veterans' personal information has been found, Veterans Administration Chief Jim Nicholson announced Thursday.
The announcement came at the beginning of a hearing before the House Veterans Affairs Committee hearing.
"It was confirmed to me by the deputy attorney general that law enforcement has in their possession the ... laptop and hard drive," Nicholson said in a statement at the hearing. "The serial numbers match."
Experts were conducting forensic tests on the laptop and hard drive, Nicholson said. It was not immediately clear if the data on the equipment had been copied or compromised, but Nicholson said "there is reason to be optimistic."
He did not say how the equipment was recovered, on where it's been during the past two months. The equipment was found Wednesday; Nicholson said he wasn't aware of any arrests made in connection with the incident.
An FBI spokesman said the laptop computer was recovered "in the area," but could not provide more specific information...

When a presidential campaign heats up, making contact with vets, especially ANY vets who can be IDed as democraps, will aid her lowness's campaign thugs in blunting or enlisting the aid of vets. Think about how many vets are conservative in relationship to the leftist ideology of the dems; if these voters actually go to the polls and vote their learned conscience, a leftist pig like hitlery cannot win. If, on the other hand, some vets can be enlisted to help discourage such conservative voters, a pig like hitlery can fly to the White House and her goons can turn it back into the WhiteWhoreHouse. In such a case, may God have mercy upon this Republic when she and her leftist ideologues are finished mutating America.
Rush will ask how Hillary's luggage was mixed with his.

Forensics
That info is worth a bump
This is from an organization that can't decide if the employee did or didn't have permission to take the information home or just how much information was involved. I have as much faith in that statement as I did in any campaign promise by Bill Clinton.
Nicholson should still resign immediately and count himself a lucky man. Just because there may not have been any harm does not mitigate the fact there was an unpardonable amount of incompetence which allowed the situation to get to this point. I am sick of the incompetents in government who are never held accountable.

Has the moonbat who took the computer home with him been fired? Of course not...I forgot- he's a federal unionized employee.
The VA didn't do the forensics, the FBI did. Not that they have lots more credibility, but it's hard to screw up this kind of forensics test unless the laptop made it into the hands of someone very knowledgable.
Why doesn't this equipment have global positioning tracking devices?

Hillary's 900 files keep growning, don't they?
Do tell. Is this for real?
Please provide a source and link for this excerpted article. Thanks.
It will be very hard to determine if the data has been viewed, as Windows file logs can easily be flushed.
Data security is such an important issue.
well alrighty
Good News--and I, for one, will give the FBI kudos for recovering the laptop so fast. Admirable work!
Oh, let's just give back the computer. There's bound to be some bleeding-heart liberals hangin' around that'll convince everybody nothing bad happened since the computer was returned. ...But we copied all the info. to a disc...
This doesn't bring me any comfort.......
Doubtful, unless the person accessing was smart enough to get around the file system access mechanisms (access time is kept, but not in a flushable log).
