SOUTH CAROLINIANS- CALL TO SHOW TROOP SUPPORT
June 29 | flib

Every Wednesday evening in Columbia, SC a group of "peace activists" (traiterous cowards) protest US involvement in Iraq. They hold up signs that denegrate the efforts of our troops. Calling it a "war for oil" and demanding that we "end the occupation" ( They obviously never looked up the definition of that word.) They do this near the foot of the capital steps 5-6 pm. Columbia is home of Fort Jackson which is one of the largest initial entry training posts in the army. It is also located near Sumter -home of Shaw Air Force Base. As a military wife, I could not stand the thought of a single soldier or family member passing by this shameful display and becoming disheartened and discouraged. I have spent almost every Wed evening since June of 2005 at the same location with signs in support of our troops and their mission. I have had numerous soldiers and family members thank me. One that really stands out is a youong hero who was home on a few weeks leave from Iraq. He and his pretty girlfriend walking hand in hand had to encounter this shameful display. He then came upon my signs and without hesitation, with tears in his eyes came up and hugged and thanked me. He was the one deserving ALL OUR THANKS. This seems to some like a waste of time, but we need to remind those not serving to consider the sacrifices made by others for their behalf as well as thank those who serve us all. Another wife joined me last September, but we really could use some MORE support. I know how busy we all can become,(I work, have three kids, and a wonderful soldier for a husband.)but can you spare some time ONCE a month? We go every Wed and anyone is welcome, but we are shooting to get a big crowd the first Wed of each month. The kick off of this is JULY 5th. How appropriate! We meet at the intersection of Gervais and Main Street. We begin at 5:00pm and end around 6:00pm. Send me a note if you want more details and contact info. Flib

PPM, can you get the rest of the group around Columbia to go?

Who exactly is "the rest of the group around Columbia"? Nobody wants to meet, remember? I think the only Columbia FReeper I know is doughuffman.

The easiest way to get to the location is to take 20 (direction depends on your location) to 277 to Columbia.
277 will turn into BULL st. ( You can tell it has because it will start having stop lights) continue on Bull Street. You want to turn Right onto Gervais st ( the previous st. is Lady, you will see WISTV station on far right corner) You will pass the State house on your left
(That is where we assemble) Go to the next light, turn right, get in left lane, and park in metered parking in the center of Assembly Street. --You can park anywhere, but we usually park there.
