Every Wednesday evening in Columbia, SC a group of "peace activists" (traiterous cowards) protest US involvement in Iraq. They hold up signs that denegrate the efforts of our troops. Calling it a "war for oil" and demanding that we "end the occupation" ( They obviously never looked up the definition of that word.) They do this near the foot of the capital steps 5-6 pm. Columbia is home of Fort Jackson which is one of the largest initial entry training posts in the army. It is also located near Sumter -home of Shaw Air Force Base. As a military wife, I could not stand the thought of a single soldier or family member passing by this shameful display and becoming disheartened and discouraged. I have spent almost every Wed evening since June of 2005 at the same location with signs in support of our troops and their mission. I have had numerous soldiers and family members thank me. One that really stands out is a youong hero who was home on a few weeks leave from Iraq. He and his pretty girlfriend walking hand in hand had to encounter this shameful display. He then came upon my signs and without hesitation, with tears in his eyes came up and hugged and thanked me. He was the one deserving ALL OUR THANKS. This seems to some like a waste of time, but we need to remind those not serving to consider the sacrifices made by others for their behalf as well as thank those who serve us all. Another wife joined me last September, but we really could use some MORE support. I know how busy we all can become,(I work, have three kids, and a wonderful soldier for a husband.)but can you spare some time ONCE a month? We go every Wed and anyone is welcome, but we are shooting to get a big crowd the first Wed of each month. The kick off of this is JULY 5th. How appropriate! We meet at the intersection of Gervais and Main Street. We begin at 5:00pm and end around 6:00pm. Send me a note if you want more details and contact info. Flib

yes I'm hollering. Yes I'm pissed.
Thank you, and may God grant you the increase. You are very brave to do this every Wed. God bless you.
Holy moly! I live just up the street in Columbia SC on Senate St. Sure I'll be there on the 5th! I'm a reservist (aging Vietnam vet, OK?) but I just volunteered for Iraq. In uniform, yes or no?
(please say yes)

I don't think that protesting in uniform would be appropriate, show up as a citizen with an opinion.
Invite them to attend. My 10 year-old daughter has been to several "events" with me. She loves hanging out with dad, even if he is a bit nuts.
Next week looks pretty busy for me but I will try to arrange it. No promises, but who knows?

Thanks for posting the map, Swamp Fox. If anyone needs more info send me a note. We all usually park on the metered parking on Assembly St. and Gervais St.
God bless you, flib and other patriotic citizens! I am praying for you from Tucson. Keep up the good work!

Big ol' Bump!
Flib, hope that you get a great big crowd on Wednesday. I don't drive so getting to Columbia is hard. I'll be thinking of y'all.
PPM, can you get the rest of the group around Columbia to go?
