JERUSALEM (AP) Israeli officials say warplanes flew over the home of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
Sort of a telegram, means you are walking on thin ice.
Dighton - I read the top article on that page just two days ago. Spooky!
How about a detour over Iran? They should take out Iran's nuclear facilities or perhaps sites where the Iraq WMDs are stored.
One thing to remember about those Syrain SAMs back in 1982, they we decent enough to down two U.S. Navy warplanes in one engagement in one of our few air attacks on Syrian targets.
In many ways, Israel was ahead of us back then in tactics. They learned the hardway in 1973.
Good point.
Amen. Watch and take notes at how the Israeli's "take care of business." At least the Israelli's avenge the kidnapping and murder of their soldiers. Even Putin has declared that they will hunt down and kill the murderers of their staff. Meanwhile, we just brought home two brave soldiers that were brutally slaughtered without any outrage from the American people. How sad is that?

I think Iran is trying to goad Israel into a confrontation with the palis. Iran influences Hamas in Syria who dictates to the Palestinian leaders.
The Iranian leadership has been talking crazy for months. It seems the Iranians are determined to start a conflict in the middle east.
I wonder what is really going on. Is the Iranian leader just crazy or is this a strategic move ?
Go, Israeli Air Force, go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ignore all phone calls from the UN, the Quartet, and the State Department and do what you need to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If Syria had the latest MIGs they'd still be shut out. In fact, due to Israel's huge edge in pilot competence, Syria wouldn't be able to put up a decent fight even if they had F15s/F16s.
The obvious difference is that Hamas is now the formal controlling party for a state that would like to become sovereign and want to have their cake and eat it too, that is, they want to function as a covert terrorist organization with office buildings and fixed addresses.
The absurd machinations of late regarding Hamas's recognition of Israel's right to exist are a case in point. One is reminded of a small child playing peek-a-boo between its fingers. The "exile" of other Hamas leaders to Syria has a similar transparency to it. And so one, at least, of several messages here is that the old game is over and the old rules no longer apply. A formal state government that sanctions the kidnapping of another's citizens is committing an act of war. Israel's response is commensurate.
I might point out that had our own government responded to a similar activity on the part of the Iranian "students" who kidnapped our embassy members we might not be having the conversations that we are having with them right now.
Bump.
Too bad they did not drop anything.
Should have been a flight of F-4 2000's, the F-16 is a lightweight compared to my F-4.

"The West has given more significance to the myth of the genocide of the Jews, even more significant than God, religion, and the prophets...."Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

"Then let's wait and see what the Arabs do after they take Gaza. There's nothing like Arab reality to break up a Jewish fantasy."FReeper Noachian
A student told his professor he was going to "Palestine" to "fight for freedom, peace and justice,"Orwellian leftist code words that mean "murder Jews."

They overfly Damascus a lot. In formation.
Now that's what I call a mighty fine picture!
