Glad to hear it.
Gay Marriage flunked out, now amending the First Amendment to allow burning of flags failed.
What's the White House got next to avoid talking about immigration?
Good. I'd rather not see the Constitution amended for something like this.

By ONE vote!
Yeah, sure.
It conveniently fails by one vote with McConnell casting a decisive vote.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it's a show vote. If not McConnell, they'd have volunteeed another sacrficial lamb. Or a Dem like Martinez from NJ would have voted no. Either way I do NOT believe we were one vote shy of passage.
Sorry, I'm not buying it.
If the Republicans want to run on this and blame Dems, they can do so. But don't expect me to believe they wanted it to pass and allowed McConnell and Bennett to vote No. Not that the Dems that voted for it should expect me to believe they wanted an amendment yes, you, Nelson in Florida and some others.
Though I AM looking with rapt attention upon McConnell, who would be Frist's successor, that voted for amnesty and now against this amendment. Sucking up to the RINO contingent? Swell. Really gives me hope for the next session of congress.
Good news.
In all this back-and-forth about burning the flag, hardly anyone ever observes that banning the burning of the flag would result in more flags being burned. Think, people.
Two Republican in the UseLess Senseless voted against the bill.
And it was not any of the usual RINO suspects. It was Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and Robert Bennett of Utah.
I am starting to think the Republicans have an intentional plan to gum up the works so they can make it look like they're trying, but, oh, darn, we didn't have the votes, so the liberals get their way again....
Chafee and Specter had taken enough heat lately. Voinovich sunk the estate tax so he did his "good deed" for the year. DeWine has too tough a re-election fight. So it's McConnell's and Bennett's turn to crap on the will of the voters.
As if they have nothing better to work on.
How about illegal immigration or balancing the budget?
Good.
If the Constitution is to be amended, amend it to restore the right of the People to legislate in their States to ban "expressive conduct" and to forbid judicial interference beyond their sphere of competence.
If we need a flag-burning amendment, we will need a thousand others to deal with present and future judicial insanity.
Let's fix it once and for all.
Good. It should have failed 100-0. Flag burning amendments are shiny political beads (and a Constitutional abomination) for the slack-jawed and dim-witted.
Once again the idiots in DC get it wrong... The issue should be 'desecration of the US flag' for protest purposes not 'burning the US flag'.... It seems that burning the US flag is the only respectful way to dispose of a worn and tattered US flag. Burning it in protest is not. And the idiots can't determine the difference????????
