Yeah, sure.

It conveniently fails by one vote with McConnell casting a decisive vote.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it's a show vote. If not McConnell, they'd have volunteeed another sacrficial lamb. Or a Dem like Martinez from NJ would have voted no. Either way I do NOT believe we were one vote shy of passage.

Sorry, I'm not buying it.

If the Republicans want to run on this and blame Dems, they can do so. But don't expect me to believe they wanted it to pass and allowed McConnell and Bennett to vote No. Not that the Dems that voted for it should expect me to believe they wanted an amendment yes, you, Nelson in Florida and some others.

Though I AM looking with rapt attention upon McConnell, who would be Frist's successor, that voted for amnesty and now against this amendment. Sucking up to the RINO contingent? Swell. Really gives me hope for the next session of congress.

Yes, there are much more pressing issues and votes than this - such as securing our borders and enforcing laws already on the books (immigration).

Your hunch may be a valid one. Could be just symbol over substance...the Senate is a wasteland anyway. Overbloated egoists with no guts.

McConnell has ALWAYS voted against the flag amendment. Says it is pure free speech, which is the same reason he is the leader in the anti-Campaign Finance Reform fights -- he says contributing money for a candidate is pure free speech.

Sometimes McConnell thinks his people were all Confederates ~ but they weren't. Actually, none of them were Confederates. Most of 'em were carpetbaggers. I know them well from the family genealogy.

Correct. This is all political kabuki theater, or as I'm certain our leaders refer to it behind closed doors, "boob bait for the bubbas" (a Beltway reference to the high esteem in which they hold their subjects, er... constituents). It's a distraction to keep us from paying attention to the truly destructive activities they're engaged in.
