So you believe that there exists a right not to be offended?

No, because you don't own the original document.
Then who does own it?

"Same here. Hate to see the flag burned as much as anyone but it's what it stands for that counts and that's free speech and the 1st Amendment."
OK, I read the First Amendment again. Where does it say you can burn anything? It talks about speech (which you do with your mouth) and the press (which is the printing press). It says nothing, I repeat, nothing about burning anything. Why do we insist on pretending the Constitution says things it does not say?

The most important amendment isn't even being discussed, the one to implement Jus sanguinis, where children born in the US have the citizenship of their parents and not automatically of the United States. That is what will protect the flag in the long run. I wholeheartedly agree!

Do you think federal prosecutors would cut me some slack if I were to get to it and burn it, claiming "freedom of speech?"
I do not understand why you believe it logical to compare an act of burning property owned by the individual who does the burning to an act of theft and destruction of property not owned by the destroyer.

Shows why it is important to GAIN seats in the Senate instead of giving them up.

The original document of the Constitution is the property of the federal government. It's not privately owned. Did you not know that?

Though I AM looking with rapt attention upon McConnell, who would be Frist's successor, that voted for amnesty and now against this amendment. Sucking up to the RINO contingent? Swell. Really gives me hope for the next session of congress.Yes, there are much more pressing issues and votes than this - such as securing our borders and enforcing laws already on the books (immigration).

In all this back-and-forth about burning the flag, hardly anyone ever observes that banning the burning of the flag would result in more flags being burned. Think, people.

" Either way I do NOT believe we were one vote shy of passage."
Your hunch may be a valid one. Could be just symbol over substance...the Senate is a wasteland anyway. Overbloated egoists with no guts.

But the seats need to be filled with Conservatives, and not just another RINO or you're back to square one.

More like desecrating the grave of someone who gave his life for his country.

McConnell has opposed it every time it comes up. I used to think this was a good idea until I heard McConnell explain his opposition to an amendment. He said "where does it stop? Should we also pass an amendment banning Roseanne Barr from singing the National Anthem?" If you recall, she sang it once in a VERY disrespectful - disgraceful - way.

OK, I read the First Amendment again. Where does it say you can burn anything? It doesn't but the USSC has ruled its political speech and is currently the law. All I'm saying is I hate to see the Constitution being amended in such a way. That should be messed with as little as possible and in fact too many amendments have been tagged onto it already.

Like, banning drugs makes more people use drugs?? Thinking.... but I still don't get it.

I agree ... flag burners suck, but banning it opens a huge can of worms. I'm willing to put up with a fair amount of bad behaviour in order to keep the Freedom of Speech unmolested.

LOL. If a guy burns the Texas flag, do they call 911? I mean for anything besides cleanup.
