Any intellectual framework that a book such as this provides will be lost on the rank and file Dems who have embraced a hatred of America as their North Star, and will drag their once-coherent party down to irrelevancy as a result.

It also amazes me that a book is required in order for the Left to see what the rest of us find completely obvious....the Islamists want to kill us all and bring Sharia law to the USA....they are not interested in congenial discourse, they are only interested in their goal and however many die in the process of achieving that goal, well, so be it.
Such a simple enemy to understand, yet many on the left have so much trouble articulating the threat.... a true reflection of the vacuitiy of their souls.
I'm pretty sure that 2008 will be quite a surprise for them. They seem to think that the average American is an utterly ignorant Bush-hater who views the war on terror as merely a smokescreen for "big oil" to "rape Iraq". I will be so delighted in November 2008 when whoever they run on that sort of platform will be absolutely stomped into the ground.
Apparently they require a long learning curve, and I ( and the majority of Americans) will be delighted to provide that for them.

Thanks for your posts and comments. I try to explain this to my "friends" and relatives, but they "don't want to talk politics", which means my politics or a different point of view from theirs.
I know lots of people who are just simply unhinged about Bush. I try to tell them that Bush is not the issue, that Islamofascism is the issue and that it wants us dead right now. They don't get it.
To me, it's a depressing time with part of Western civilizaztion dying right in front of our eyes.
Unfortunately, for many it will require another 9-11 for them to 'get it' but even if such a horrific event were to occur, God forbid, the Left would still be spinning it as "just a random event and not part of any sort of Jihad against the USA,,,,just another trumped-up smokescreen from the wealthy and the arms manufacturers to fight a trumped up war...yadda yadda yadda...".
There are, unfortunately, a great many people who will NEVER 'get it" and they will die as old and unhappy Socialists having never "gotten it". Just as the old saying goes, you can lead a horse to water but...... in this case we need to concentrate on those people who actually have a glimmer of intelligence and are not robotic, knee-jerk Socialists....some people are simply beyond hope and are a waste of time. Time is something that we all have very little of, as rogue nations are developing nukes (and many already have them) and they will be delighted to sell or even give these weapons to terrorists. Anything that they can do to cause America harm and pain is just fine with them. It is the sane people of the world, those of us who understand Socialism and Islamofascism for what they are, who will save our world and we don't have a lot of time to waste on people who are determined to be idiots.
If they haven't figured out why they've lost the last 2 election cycles after holding countless town hall and MEET UP sessions live on C-SPAN, then they don't deserve to be in power.
They'd prefer to wait till the Sears Tower was in flames before arresting the plotters.
Even then, they'll say it was a government coverup to get us into Iran or North Korea.
The liberals simply cannot make themselves agree to any kind of coherent strategy because in their hearts they believe we deserve what's coming to us from the jihadists.
I've resisted that conclusion, because it's just too knee-jerk--"They hate America, we love it"--and easy. I can't tell if they hate America, but I do believe they've shown they hate THIS America, and they dream of what it COULD be--aka the USSR but with all the "Mistakes" corrected.
But that's beside the point. The liberals' dirty little secret, which they simply can't cop to, is that they all believe we had 9-11 coming. We are the Evil World Power that causes hunger and poverty because we all have ipods (so do they, but, well, it's different, they listen to 60's protest music on theirs) and watch TV (so do they but, well, it's different, because Seinfeld is so Ironic and Depserate Housewives is about female empowerment), and we eat more food and use more oil than anyone else, and by Marxist guidelines that means we're taking that stuff from someone else. So Al Qaeda (even though it's funded by the rich) is a Revolutionary War-like struggle against The Powerful, and they are only using violence because they are Angry that Their Truth can't be heard over the drones of our TVs and ipods and SUV's.
The libs can't come up with a position to fight terrorism because while they want terrorism to end, they don't want to do any more evil to stop it--evil being actually commiting acts of violence that will kill more innocent bystanders, which happens in any war, like it or not.
They are the political contingent of those who only want to deal with what they WANT to be true as opposed to what IS. And they haven't the spirit to fight against attackers they think have a point. So this writer's attempt to get the libs into the war is doomed to failure, unless the libs can find a way to prove that Al Qaeda is actually made up of rich white guys, preferably from Texas.

No they're not. They're just dangerously stupid. Always have been. Ever since Jimmy Carter started cutting deals with the devil, and going around making friends with America's enemies, it's emboldened terrorists everywhere.
The terrorists want everyone killed. Doesn't matter who you voted for in the elections. The terrorists won't stop until everyone is reciting from the Koran and memorizing Sharia Law in school. Even if that means they lose a few followers of their sick, perverted ideology in the process.
It is a scary world we're in, with hard core liberals, biased media, Islamic fanatics, the ACLU, the UN, idiots and so forth.
I do find it amusing (after reading the posted review of this book) that for $29.95, liberals seeking guidance can read a well written book that still doesn't answer their questions. They are far from united, in fact, now Democrats are actually saying it's OK not to have a unified direction or plan on the War On Terror. So they've agreed to disagree with each other, which should give us all hope.
I think that decency is the divide. They are the ones who rallied to defend Clinton under the banner that "Everybody does it". Bush doesn't and Muslims don't think they are cute either. We could get along a lot better with Muslims if we weren't pushing abortion and porn and went back to a decency of the 1950's.
You have touched on a string that was the catalyst for the justiication of an ideology. What a better way to demonize those who hold the power of the world by a bunch of backwoods wannabees. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you and it goes back to the liberalization of our society in that it has incrementally torn away at the fabric which made ours the best and most powerful nation in history. Only we have the ability to fix it.
To even the Lieberman wing of the Democratic Party national security is an after thought. Put a fork in them!
Basaed on what I have seen, it is a strategy of what I call the sharp elbows crowd, street fighters who push others out of the way to get ahead. One way they disable the competition is to lie about morals and spread the word than anything goes. Then they step over the bodies of those who fall for their lies.
A true liberal thinks reality is whatever he decides it SHOULD be.....given his/her obviously god-like capacity, because their intention is so "good", they are utterly incapable of perceiving how or why any one might want them dead.
Western Liberals will always see defenders of Western Civilization as a greater evil than enemies of Western Civilization. That's what Western Liberals do.
