MIAMI, June 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Roy Black, Rush Limbaugh's attorney, issued the following statement today in response to several inquiries by the media:
While going through routine Customs inspection of luggage at Palm Beach International Airport upon his return from an international trip, Rush Limbaugh was detained by customs agents after they noticed a non-narcotic prescription drug, which had been prescribed by Mr. Limbaugh's treating physician but labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh for privacy purposes. After a brief interview, Mr. Limbaugh was permitted to continue on his journey.
I couldn't disagree more. And you would agree with me if you were the one being harassed unnecessarily because of your political views. That is why Rush was being singled out, and if you believe otherwise you're insane in the membrane.
Name another state with posh residences and no income tax.
Texas
Do you not read well or are just behind on the news cycle?
He wasn't carrying a prescription drug without a prescription. It is by no means clear that any law was broken at all. It is very clear that somebody, either in customs or the sheriff's dept. released private medical information gleaned in the course of an investigation. Pretty sure it's a policy violation, may be a violation of the HIPAA act.
Once again, overzealous partisans in government employ and the drive by media have diminished the privacy and rights of all of us in pursuit of the big kahuna.
Brief Interview? Four Hours is Brief?
Rush does seem to have a hang up on Chloe.
The prescription was not in his name, read the story.
Doctors can hand out samples of stuff....but you can't come into the U.S. with over 50 prescription pills. People get nailed all the time putting pills in those daily pill reminder boxes, and leaving the prescription bottle at home. You need the bottle, and preferably the printout from the pharmacy also.
There is a law like that in GA also. But I always have a pill bottle in my purse with whatever I happen to be taking, not that I take alot.
I keep 4 advils, 2 tylenol 3's (a chronic condition that can flare anytime-don't leave home without it), 2 Claritans.
I think the bottle is for an old antibiotic I took at one time.
Lock me up now or later?
BTW-at least Rush had a labeled bottle. There is more unprescribed Viagra out there than you can shake a stick at. I guess it's a man thing, if it does the trick when they can't, imagine what it can do when they can.
Actually one is a misdemeanor of a state law.
The other is a federal violation ...Hippa violation carries a huge fine.
Don't think so. TX has no income tax, and lots of rich people, but I surely can't imagine Rush on a horse or in a pick-up. :-)
It was in his doctor's name for reasons of privacy, which is legal in FL and most if not all states. In fact, it is a common practice in celebrity cirles and even BaBa WaWa has admitted to doing the same today on The View.
Ya'll should read more than once news source. You are apparently just behind on the news cycle.
The real story is partisan leaking of private medical information by government employees. Not that the media plans to cover that anytime soon.
Bill O'Reilly did, today, on his radio show and is also going to on his show in a few minutes. He was very ticked at this set up, said he flew back from Cuba in a private plane and had to go through customs and no one searched his shaving kit for drugs, he strongly felt Rush was targeted for political reasons.
Well-- you speak of technicalities...
Assuming Rush's lawyer is being honest (and I have never heard of Doctor shopping for Viagra....), Rush had a bottle of prescrition medication with someone else's name - which is TECHNICALLY illegal. The fact that Rush' doctor may very well have prescribed it for Limbaugh, by putting another person's name on the label was ASKING for trouble. Of course, if the Doctor had someone else's name put on the bottle, even if for Rush's "privacy", the Dr. also technically committed a crime...
But this would not have become a media circus or even a big deal to the prosecutor had this been a lib.
Evidentally, what this doctor did is common for doctors and celebrities. O'Reilly pointed out and a Florida DA on the show agreed that something stinks with the guy at the airport calling the DA and the DA calling the AP.... ethics?
The guy at the airport called the DA and the DA called the AP.
I don't argue that such a practice may be common - I just question the legality, particularly for someone who has already had legal troubles related to prescription drugs. i would think that Rush would want to keep everything "above the board" under the current climate.
I agree he needed to be extra cautious.... but this case stinks t high heaven since in 99.9% of the cases they wouldn't even look in the shaving kit and if they did, they would call the doctor and inquire.
