Bush slams leak of terror finance story

President Bush on Monday sharply condemned the disclosure of a secret anti-terrorism program that taps into an immense international database of confidential financial records. "The disclosure of this program is disgraceful," he said.

"For people to leak that program and for a newspaper to publish it does great harm to the United States of America," Bush said. He said the disclosure of the program "makes it harder to win this war on terror."

The program has been going on since shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. It was disclosed last week by several news organizations.

Using broad government subpoenas, the program allows U.S. counterterrorism analysts to obtain financial information from a vast database maintained by a company based in Belgium. It routes about 11 million financial transactions daily among 7,800 banks and other financial institutions in 200 countries.

"Congress was briefed and what we did was fully authorized under the law," Bush said, talking with reporters in the Roosevelt Room after meeting with groups that support U.S. troops in Iraq.

"Congress was briefed and what we did was fully authorized under the law," Bush said

There is zero justification for what the New York Times did. There is no allegation of illegal activity at all, just another way for Bush haters to kill two birds with same stone, selling more papers and underminding the war on terror.

Now the terrorist will try using other methods to spread terrorist funds, knowing that bank transactions are being constantly monitored. In other words, we just made it harder for the good guys, and my family, my friends and myself are exposed to greater danger.

Thanks New York Times

When the left is digging a hole, hand them a shovel. Don't give them a way out and don't give them a weapon to use in the coming campaign seasons of 06 and even 08.

And if a 100 more of our soldiers are killed as the enemy is encouraged, it is okay, because by God we wouldn't want the "campaign season" to be disrupted.

If another attack happens...the administration has a built-in accomplice

Whew, glad to hear that when 3 or 5000 people are murdered, AGAIN, at least the administration will have an accomplice to point to.

In a note on the paper's Web site Sunday, Executive Editor Bill Keller said the Times spent weeks discussing with Bush administration officials whether to publish the report.

He said part of the government's argument was that the anti-terror program would no longer be effective if it became known, because ..... terrorists would find other ways to move money.

"We don't know what the banking consortium will do, but we found this argument puzzling," Keller said

This is a treasonous lie.

Any idiot would not be puzzled that the terrorists would find OTHER WAYS to move their money.

These newspaper traitors are not stupid; they knew exactly what they were up to.

They were warning the terrorists.

BECAUSE THEY ARE ON THE TERRORISTS SIDE.

The Scratching Post makes an interesting point about the New York Times' effort to promote itself through the vehicle of victim-hood. We can circumvent their victim-hood tactic by selectively boycotting the advertiser to the New York Times. The advertisers are their real source of revenue. Once the advertisers see the risk in advertising in the New York Times, they will take away the Mother's Milk of the New York Time's survival.

1. Prosecute NYT reporters under Sedition Act, or

2. Subpoena NYT reporters and compel them to divulge names of leakers in the government. When they refuse to divulge, jail them for contempt and let them rot.

Did I leave anything out?

3. Write Congressmen urging that the decades old $10,000 fine for disclosing Classified be increased due to inflation.

4. Send Viagra to the other Perps in the cell block.

Anybody who buys the New York Times or places an ad in it is subsidizing the enemies of the United States.

Wasn't the WSJ's participation an editorial that occured AFTER the Slimes ran the story?

I thought I'd heard that.

Have I missed what the President's going to do about this?

I don't know. But if anything is done would it not also have to be done to the LA Times and to the Wall Street Journal?

++++This program can also be used to screen for drug dealing, illegal political contributions, money laundering, large real estate purchases, large stock transactions, other large financial transactions, legal political contributions, tobacco purchases, etc.++++

Hey 'Doctor', stop self medicating.

This program tracked international financial transactions through Brussels Belgium.

NOT if you're donating $20.00 to Joe the Alderman or buying aunt Mary's house in Ames, Iowa. And especially NOT if you're buying six cartons of Camels© from "Cigs For Less" run by the Infugdubia branch of the Sioux Indians in South Dakota.

The NYT is a dying paper anyway. It's not even the #1 daily in NYC.

Natalie Maines subscribed to the NYT, but couldn't find the comics...

My thoughts exactly. The New York Slimes, and other birdcage liners and puppy trainers posing as "newpapers", have shown repeatedly that they will stop at NOTHING to try to gin up anger and impeachment fever against this President -- even if it puts all of us AND our troops overseas in danger and causes setbacks in the War on Terror. Disgusting. They need to be prosecuted. This is not a "freedom of speech" issue.

Thanks for posting this transcript Tex!

I just saw the last half of this news conference on C-spam. The President was TICKED OFF during that last question!!! His facial expression and entire demeanor changed.
