ANOTHER ANN COULTER THREAD

Posted on 06/26/2006 4:14:38 AM PDT by 7thson

I know, I know - another Ann Coulter thread. I wanted to start a fresh thread because of a question. I am two thirds through her latest book, Godless, and I began wondering about something. Why is she being attacked and skewered for her comments on the Jersey Girls? Other than her views on evolution - which, as far as I know, are only commented upon on Free Republic - the mass media does not comment on anything else she has written in the book. She has commented on Howard Dean, Cindy Sheehan, John Edwards, his wife, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, RFK, Jr., et al. In fact, one comment concerning Sheehan - where she says Sheehan is proof some body types should not wear shorts - should be gravy for the media. Why the fascination with the Jersey Girls? Is it because people do not want to question the 9/11 commission - which they wanted - and find out it was a rubber stamp to exonerate the Clintons?

Because she is right..... they are "victims" who cannot be challenged.

Yes.

A Conservative pundit (Ann) wrote a book saying the Dems are wrong on abortion. Big yawn from the Dems -- nothing new here, they can handle it (the Dems have a secret weapon to deflect such claims). The pundit also says the Dems are wrong on terrorism. Another big yawn. This won't hurt the Dems (they still have their secret weapon).

Then the pundit points out that the Dems use untouchable "victims" in order to sell their half-baked ideas. Anyone who examines the Dem talking-points (and ignores the untouchable spokesperson) will see that the Dems offer absolutely nothing.

CLANG! The secret weapon has been uncovered! The emperor has no clothes! This is a crisis for the Dems! This is not like other attacks on the Dem position! This effectively disarms the Dems and leaves them with nothing to fall back on!

Ann must be destroyed as a heartless witch.

"I never cared for the music of the "dead" but then again I never cared for alot of what passes for music in the last twenty+ years..."

Ditto that.

Stones, CSNY, Santana, etc etc of the 60s and early 70s, was the end of R&R. Everything since has been crap.

"...and more than likely I never cared for what you consider good music too."

Different strokes, pal.

"Here's a very strange interview with Ann about being a deadhead."

What's "strange" about it??

"The one time I missed not being able to go to Dead shows more than any other since Jerry died was during the Clinton impeachment. There was so much viciousness - killed cats, punctured tires, threats, investigations and slander against those of us favoring impeachment. (Anthony Pellicano, you'll recall – the Hollywood private investigator now accused of criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, and making criminal threats – was working for the Clintons during the Monica Lewinsky investigation.).." ~ Ann Coulter

No lie!!

What's wrong with Ann being a Dead Head? I'm a Parrotthead (hence my screen name). BTW - Parrotthead is spelled correctly.

Jimmy Buffett is a huge lib but he doesn't talk about it much and I like his music. I like Jimmy's cover of Uncle John's Band a lot better than the original. I even did a parody called Uncle John's Plan.

The reason that the MSM and the lest (OK, they're pretty much one and the same) are going after her on "The Jersey Girls" is because by minimizing the fact that she's targeted 4 specific political activists, and trying to get the "unwashed masses" to believe that she's taking a swipe at all widows of September 11, they're hoping to completely discredit her. "After all, if she'll say something as ridiculous and 'hateful' as that, she'll say anything!" The simple fact is that they can't repudiate anything she says using facts or evidence, so they have to try to destroy her credibility, in order to call everything she writes and says into question. Of course, if we held the left to that same standard, nobody would buy the NY Times, Washington Post, LA Times, Time, or Newsweek ever again. Or watch any of the alphabet networks, CNN, or MSNBC.

They did the same thing, with far greater success to Gary Aldrich, regarding Clinton's sneaking out of the White House for sexual escapates, which may or may not have happened. Of course, everything else in the book was right, but the MSM glommed on to that one point, and by playing it up, they destroyed his credibility. On the other hand, I did once read something about evidence of this actually happening.

Well, if the intent of her book was to trivialize the Jersey Girls I'd say she succeeded. The controversy sure is helping sales.

But that's all that's being talked about. If that satisfies you, then fine. But having a talented writer like an Ann Coulter, coupled with a major book publisher and massive publicity, all to crush four New Jersey loudmouths, seems like overkill.

I'd rather the focus be on the Godlessness of liberals and the effect that's having on our society. No one, except Ann Coulter herself, is talking about that.

Why is she being attacked and skewered for her comments on the Jersey Girls?

The mainstream media attacks her because they are predominantly liberal, and her comments pose a truth that they don't want revealed.

Some Republican or conservatives don't like the way she presents her case. I believe that there's a feeling among some that "we are too good to be like her" or something like that.

I disagree with both groups - she's right and she presents her case in a manner which draws attention. And frankly, the issues that she presents in her book all deserve attention.

The MSM would rather talk about the Jersey Girls than the thrust of her book. In that sense, they're winning.

Ann's first few chapters explain how the press engages in selective and unfair reporting. There you have it.

I got the book on CD; Ann reads it. I must admit that I have to replay parts because I'm laughing so hard that I can't hear her comments.

"Ann's a 'deadhead'? I've just lost all respect for her, and won't be buying her book. Worst fricking band of the last century. Noise looking for a classfication category. Junk"

Huh?
You are kidding right?
When did the music someone likes have anything to do with buying anyone's books?
I love Tom Clancy books, and I have no idea what music he likes. And if I did, it wouldn't make the slightest difference to me.
This latest, pathetic attempt by the Ann-haters to smear her is even more pitiful than the ones before.

Also, the media got to frame Ann's comments as "Coulter attacks 911 widows", making it sound as though she said something different. The media knows most people only read the headlines. Happens on FR all to often.

The core tactic of unfair critics is to take one or two points and make them the basis of an entire slam on a person. For example, Lincoln's country manner and spellings in his letters and memos was often ridiculed as marking him to be an ignorant rube. Of course, Lincoln, despite a humble background, limited formal education, and often poor spelling, was not an ignorant rube.

With Ann Coulter, none of her MSM interviewers actually read her book. Instead, in preparation for her interview, the Today Show had a staff person, perhaps even an intern, read her book for points they could toss at her to create sparks and put her on the defensive. The truth matters less than if it can be used to make her look bad -- mean, most of all.

Imagine this intern scanning through Coulter's book. Let's see: Ann says liberals are Godless, arrogant, smug, intolerant, often ignorant -- well, how can you argue with that? Ah, but Coulter slams the Jersey girls! Let's hit her on that!

And so the Today Show's unknown intern or junior staffer sets the basis for the interview with Coulter and the entire MSM approach to her new book. Somewhere, that person is bragging to friends and family that he or (more likely) she fashioned the hit interview on Coulter.

Perhaps though, even in that person's callow mind, they wonder briefly: is this really journalism, or just a shallow form of entertainment? And well, isn't it a mark of an even more deadly shallowness that an entire chorus of liberals has taken their lead? Nah, after all, we are liberals, soooooo much smarter and better than everyone else. We do not need to read books by people that we do not agree with!

Why is she being attacked and skewered for her comments on the Jersey Girls?

They thought it was the one thing they could use to paint her in a bad light so we would all turn against her. They don't dare argue with her face to face on actual policy - she'd cut them to ribbons.

Re Ann's being a deadhead - I'd lot rather that than her being into Barry Manilow! The Dead is one of my "guilty pleasures" as well, but just their recordings - I wouldn't go near any of their concerts. Other guilty pleasures: Beavis and Butthead, AC/DC, communist rifles, fireworks, Sienfeld, ...anyway, love him or hate him, you gotta admit, Jerry Garcia made the world a more interesting place.
