Coulter's a satirist -- really?

LIFE IS HARD for satirists. Like high school poets or people who get aroused when they put on furry mascot costumes, no one understands them. Back in 1729, Jonathan Swift was almost universally reviled when he suggested, in "A Modest Proposal," that the antidote to urban squalor was to eat the children of poor Irish immigrants and use their skin to make "admirable gloves for ladies and summer boots for fine gentlemen." If only Fox News had been around; Sean Hannity would have dined out (so to speak) for weeks on the skirmish.
Today, of course, "A Modest Proposal" is considered one of the greatest works of political satire in the English language. But isn't that always the way? Comedy is tragedy plus time, which may explain why Ann Coulter, the Cruella De Vil of blond, ectomorphic wonkdom, is getting such a beating by the liberal and (more important) tragically literal mainstream media. Such is the price of being in the cultural vanguard. If you think Swift was cutting-edge, imagine having a wit so dry that even you haven't yet realized you're a satirist.

If I were the LA Slimes, I'd worry about the Slimes' own survival as a serious media outlet. With the current declining rate, the Slimes will become obliterated in a few short years... Why they take on Ann is a little puzzle here!!!

People can take all sorts of things but being the butt of ridicule is the least of them. That is why Coulter is so effective as a conservative critic. She really knows how to get underneath the liberals' skin. who ya gonna call when ya wanna bust a liberal?

Okey, another leftie in the brownian commotion and it's getting tiresome - a review about sex, long legs, pimping, physical hotness, testicles, small breasts...
Kind of reminds me an old joke about psychoanalyst asking a patient what he thinks about looking at the beer foam. The answer is: about broads. Puzzled psychotherapist - why?! I always think about them, patient says.
Lefties need to start making pictorial reviews now. Should be fun.
Btw, Darwin's evolution theory is the most impotent theory in the history of humanity - it gave birth to precious nothing (unlike creationism that gave us genetics).

What goldstategop said is very astute, and I should probably leave it at that.
The article itself is pretty snotty, as might be expected.
Just to be sure, I looked up the word "satire." It doesn't help, as there are many meanings.
I think a lot of people can't keep up with Ann. She really is an insider with her knowledge of politics and the different players. At one point in her latest book she says something like: what Paul Begala calls "duck hunting," normal people call "antiquing." I'm guessing that there is an inside story there (looking for wooden ducks?).
But when she gives specific cases of liberal judges, and one liberal Governor running for President, letting murderers go free and the predictable happens - that is no joke. Yes, it is so absurd that one might think it must be a joke, but it is no joke.
I'll add my own. After Lenin murdered 15 million, Stalin 40 million, Mao around 50 million, a Democratic Congress considered abandoning South-East Asia to the tender mercies of Communists. Must be a joke, right? Sad to say, but no. More than 2 million were murdered as a result, with millions more imprisoned. And yet, to this day, liberals still like Communists. And they (liberals) are are still waging war against the United States. Like Ann, I'll leave it to the reader to decide if I meant every word.

Ann doesn't need a PR firm; the liberal press gives her all the press she could ever want FOR FREE!! Such a deal!
I've fielded arguments from people who say O'Reilly delivers a better conservative msg but here, after several weeks, the libs are still trying to wage war on AC. They wouldn't have taken a single shot at O'Reilly, they would have just ignored him.
They can't ignore Ann and people are reading her book and discussing her opinions. WE WIN, WE WIN, WE WIN!
Meanwhile, two or three people have gone to see Algore's idiotic movie.

Damning with faint praise?
LOL!
While I would enjoy a prepublication proofreading position, if ever it were improbably offered, I don't think comparing AC's signature style with Buckley is appropriate.
She is writing her own unique thoughts, directed to her own growing audience, and is inarguably gaining wild popularity outside of the elitist "retired gated community" type of pseudo conservatives...
May her "niche market" continue to grow ever larger!

Ann Coulter IS a satirist.Yep. She takes the Rush m.o. of "illustrating absurdity with absurdity" to a different, more subtle plane. She is a genius of rhetoric and is so effective at exposing the hypocrisy of the left that all the liberals can do is seethe and gnash their teeth. The particularly stupid ones try to respond, but their responses are invariably lame and crybabyish.

On a day when Charles Krauthammer writes what may be his best ever editorial (and it pertains largely to Australia) you shouldn't cast aspersions on a great country, a great continent, a great ally and a very good Freeper. Cheer to John Howard!
