MADRAS, Ore. -- A community memorial service will be held next Saturday for Private First Class Thomas Tucker of Madras, the soldier who disappeared during an insurgent attack in Iraq and was killed.
The service will begin at 1 p.m. at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds Expo Center in Redmond. The Oregon National Guard, which is helping the Tucker family, says the service will be open to the public. Afterward, the family will hold a private burial.
Tucker's body is to be flown to Oregon on Monday.
Friday night in Madras, hundreds gathered in a park for a candlelight service to honor Tucker. Governor Kulongoski attended.
One of those at the service was Madras resident Teri Summers. She says that as a mother she finds Tucker's death, in her words, "the saddest thing I can ever imagine." .

That would be soooo ugly! i hope there is protection for this funeral!!!
sigh....
A hero proved. Let us remember that, as Paul wrote, his suffering consisted of "light and momentary troubles" compared to the unending glory that is before him now.
Rest in peace, Tom.
Godspeed, Soldier.
"Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well,
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

In paridisum deducant te Angeli;
in tuo adventu suscipiant te Martyres,
et perducant te in civitatem sanctam
Jerusalem. Chorus Angelorum te suscipiat,
et cum Lazaro quondam paupere aeternam
habeas requiem.
Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem.
Amen.
I truly hope the autopsy finds all insult to their bodies to be postmortem!....that would be some comfort..

A true American hero, may he rest in peace and may God's peace be with his family at this time of grief.
