Cannon leading Jacob

Getting supporters to polls may be key to election Copyright 2006 Deseret Morning News

By Bob Bernick Jr. Deseret Morning News Rep. Chris Cannon holds a good lead over fellow Republican John Jacob in the 3rd Congressional District as Tuesday's primary approaches, a new Deseret Morning News/KSL-TV poll shows. But when pollster Dan Jones & Associates breaks out those most interested in the election and hard-core GOP voters, the race tightens consider- ably. Jones polled 617 registered 3rd District voters from Monday to Thursday. Among all the voters, Cannon leads 46 percent to 33 percent. Still, whether Cannon wins the chance for a sixth term or Jacob knocks him out of office Tuesday will largely depend on which man can get his supporters to the ballot box, said Jones. "Cannon has less than 50 percent of the vote," the poll shows, said Jones. "But at least he does have strong support among the Republicans" in the survey — where Cannon leads 60-35 percent. And the race is in a closed Republican primary, open only in their case to GOP-registered voters.

Unfortunately, the lesson people will get from all of this is that the border enforcement crowd is lead by a bunch weirdos. It is a real shame and for whatever victories one might get with a single House vote, the success of the movement depends on popular support.

I think it's that my vigilance is kind of fleeting.

Let the sword play continue!

Aw, I try to thrust, but he parries like a Frenchman. And not the cool kind, like Cyrano. Although he's fictional. OK, there are no cool Frenchman, but if there were, EV would not parry like one.

Read this book. Trust my judgment on this one. It really separates the eternal from the emphemeral, and will touch the heart of even the most ice water in their veins "true conservative." In fact, it will make you cry.

Well, as I like to say, I don't read...paper.

It's so 19th century, ya know?

Besides, I have to read a book on finance:

Travel:

And, of course, history:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0345416600/qid=1151283778/sr=1-7/ref=sr_1_7/103-7535302-4228611?s=books&v=glance&n=283155

(OK, I've already read the last two, but you have to read them again to appreciate the subtleties.)

I guess you are more into laughing than crying. That is perfectly understandable. But having a good cry before the laugh, makes the latter all the more satisfying. JMO.

By the way, one of the main characters in the novel had a few trenchant comments about Carter, and had a Reagan Bush sticker on his beat up van in 1984. That brought a smile to my face. No, before you ask, that was just a cameo moment, not what the book was about, except as part of larger theme, one of many, about human dignity.

I would like to seriously recommend the history book. If you can't giggle at "Hawley-Smoot Tariff", you will.

What's "the from ACU" that I'm not questioning?

You mean Tancredo should have 100% rating? I have no idea what his rating is, and don't really care.

Honestly, I place no value on any such ratings. IMHO, they're nothing more than an excuse for lazy people to get out of doing research on their representative.

Dane, you never did answer about "these birds of a feather", Cannon & Safavian.

Also interesting to find out Cannon is "Vice Chairman on the U.S.-Mexico Congressional Caucus."

http://magic-city-news.com/article_6150.shtml

(snip) Well, well, well ... Congressman Chris "King of Amnesty" of Utah says he is against AMNESTY! Could it be he's talking about illegal immigration? Do tell us, Chris, why you are suddenly on board as the self-imposed champion of immigration reform while you still occupy the position of Vice Chairman on the U.S.-Mexico Congressional Caucus?

(snip) Membership List (interesting list of more *birds* Cannon is keeping company with)

Congressman David Dreier (R-CA), Co-Chair Congressman Charlie Stenholm (D-TX), Co-Chair Congressman Tom Davis (R-VA), Vice-Chair Congressman Howard Berman (D-CA), Vice-Chair Congressman Chris Cannon (R-UT), Vice-Chair Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (D-CA), Vice-Chair Congressman Henry Bonilla (R-TX), Vice-Chair Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA), Vice-Chair Congressman Robert Matsui (D-CA) Congressman Gene Green (D-TX) Congressman Mark Souder (R-IN) Congressman Tom Udall (D-NM) Congresswoman Hilda Solis (D-CA) Congressman Jeff Flake (R-AZ) Congressman Charles Gonzalez (D-TX) Congresswoman Ginny Brown-Waite (R-FL) Congresswoman Kay Granger (R-TX) Congressman Charlie Rangel (D-NY) Congressman Bob Beauprez (R-CO) Congressman Tom Lantos (D-CA) Congressman Jim Kolbe (R-AZ) Congressman J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) Congressman Bob Filner (D-CA) Congressman Joe Baca (D-CA) Congresswoman Linda Sanchez (D-CA) Congressman Solomon Ortiz (D-TX) Congressman Steve Pearce (NM)

For those in Utah, 3rd Congressional District who have not decided here is a reminder. This is from a person who lives in a state that has been destroyed by illegal immigration. Cannon wants you, the taxpayer, to pay for the illegal immigrants and their dependents who come to this country.Illegal immigrants are destroying your childrens future by taking resources that would pay for quality education and health care. Look at California and see the damage illegal immigrants has done to that state. You do not want your beautiful state to end up like California. Don't vote for a candidate who supports the "California experiment". Support the candidate who will put the brakes on illegal immigration.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Feb 9, 2005

NCLR TO HONOR DEMOCRAT SENATOR CHRISTOPHER DODD, CONGRESSMAN CHRIS CANNON, AND THE LLANO GRANDE CENTER AT 2005 CAPITAL AWARDS GALA

Washington, DC – The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., will hold its 2005 Capital Awards Dinner at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC on Tuesday, March 8. At this year’s annual gala, NCLR will honor Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT) and Congressman Chris Cannon (R-UT) for their leadership on legislation that has had a significant impact on the Hispanic community, and the Llano Grande Center for Research and Development – a community-based organization located in Elsa, Texas – for providing education and youth leadership programs along the Texas-Mexico border.

“Senator Dodd is one of the most loyal and committed supporters of the Latino community,” said Janet Murguia, NCLR President and CEO. “He has worked tirelessly to protect the civil rights of all Americans and has been a champion for early child education, leading the debate to expand the Head Start program and provide universal access to preschool.”

Murguia continued, “NCLR is also pleased to honor Representative Cannon, who, despite pressure from extremist anti-immigrant forces, has fought resolutely for comprehensive immigration reform. We commend Congressman Cannon especially for his work as chief House sponsor of the ‘Dream Act.’ If passed, the ‘Dream Act’ would open the doors to college for the children of undocumented immigrants – many of whom have lived in the U.S. their entire lives, excelled, and even become honor roll students in their U.S. high schools.”

NCLR will also present the Public Service Award to the Llano Grande Center for Research and Development for its success in building strong leaders in south Texas. “NCLR is proud to highlight the amazing work of the Llano Grande Center, which has placed more than 50 students in Ivy League universities since 1993,” said Murguia. “Its outstanding programs are models for other immigrant communities throughout the country.” Sonia Manzano, acclaimed for her work as “Maria” on Sesame Street, will serve as Master of Ceremonies at the gala event, and entertainment will include a performance by Latin Jazz All-Stars. Citigroup is the Chair sponsor for the event, and the Fannie Mae Foundation and Frito- Lay, Inc./PepsiCo Inc. are the Vice Chairs.

For tickets and table information, please contact Fernanda Tilleria at (800) 311-NCLR. Members of the media interested in attending should contact Alexandra Jost at (202) 785-1670.

Knowing that Cannon is allied with La Raza, an extremist Hispanic organization which supports unrestricted illegal immigration, would you vote for him?
