(OK, I've already read the last two, but you have to read them again to appreciate the subtleties.)
By the way, one of the main characters in the novel had a few trenchant comments about Carter, and had a Reagan Bush sticker on his beat up van in 1984. That brought a smile to my face. No, before you ask, that was just a cameo moment, not what the book was about, except as part of larger theme, one of many, about human dignity.
