WASHINGTON, D.C., June 20, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) A pro-homosexual group known as Center for the Study of Sexual Minorities in the Military (CSSMM), a think tank at the University of California, Santa Barbara, claims to have unearthed a current Pentagon document that lists homosexuality as a psychological disorder.
According to the CSSMM the Department of Defense Instruction that so categorizes homosexuality was signed by the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness in 1996 and re-certified as "current" in 2003.
Although homosexuality has traditionally been considered a psychological disorder the American Psychiatric Association (APA) removed homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses over thirty years ago, claiming that it "implies no impairment in judgment, stability, reliability, or general social and vocational capabilities." The APAs decision, however, has been the subject of criticism in recent years with some alleging that the 1973 move to remove homosexuality from the list of disorders was highly influenced by homosexual activism and not objective scientific data (http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2006/feb/06020902.html).
The CSSMM responded to what it has called an outdated and offensive classification of homosexuality by issuing a report card on the military, giving it 'F's' in four out of five categories, including "Mental Health Classification," "Anti-gay Harassment and Command Climate," "Evidence-Based Assessment of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'" and "Family Support."
Dr. Aaron Belkin, director of CSSMM, expressed grave concern that the military continues to list homosexuality as a mental illness. "It's unclear why a DoD document would classify homosexuality as a mental disorder over thirty years after the psychiatric community acknowledged this is a mistake," said Dr. Belkin. The vast majority of other military documents no longer list homosexuality as a mental disorder.
Current military policy still requires the discharge of members who openly profess their homosexuality, although the militarys dont ask, dont tell policy forbids recruiters from inquiring into the sexual activities or preferences of the recruit. However, the number of discharges from the military on account of homosexuality have dramatically increased in the last number of years as members have increasingly openly challenged the policy. The Supreme Court has many times over refused to hear cases challenging the constitutionality of the policy.
A 1998 report on the effectiveness of the militarys policies concluded that service by those who have a propensity to engage in homosexual conduct creates an unacceptable risk to morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion, and that the long-standing prohibition of homosexual conduct therefore continues to be necessary in the unique circumstances of military service.
Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Jeremy M. Martin said the offending document is under review.
Didn't Lincoln tell this story?:
Grandpa asked his Grandson, 'See that cow over there?'
How many legs does it have?
Grandson responds, "four"!
"That's right", says Grandpa.
"Now", he asks, "If we called her tail a leg, how many legs would that cow have?"
Thinking quickly the boy responds, "five!"
Disappointed, Grandpa makes his point, "Now son, just because we call his tail a leg doesn't make it one."
That cow still only has four legs!"
I bet they are liberals too LOL.
The most liberal sexologist in the country (Albert Ellis) considers it a mental illness. See his "Homosexuality: Its Causes and Cure." That's good enough for me.

30 years ago they made a mistake.
For thousands of years homosexuality was considered a disorder and worse. It's time for the APA to take a another look based on the crucial evidence that has come out in the last 30 years.
Did they include liberalism? :)
No, homosexuality is not a "mental disorder". It is evil and the worst kind of perversion.
Must be pretty different from the guy-girl thing, then. ;^)
Seriously, are posters here suggesting that heterosexuals aren't crazy? I'm an old fart but I remember that part well enough.
Trying to put a square peg in a round hole is not a sign of an impairment of judgment??!!!
According to the new head of the Episcopal Church, homos are born with a 'gift' and they are 'blessings' to each and every one of us.
Homosexual think tank? So a nothing closseted one person "think tank" is given credibility.
The APA also considers pedophilia non-harmful as long as the molester is "well adjusted."
The military has this correct.
It is a psychological disorder for anyone who was born the sex they now are.
However, for those who were born with both sexes and had one removed as a baby, this is where "orientation" is one I leave alone.
Did the dr who moved to remove homsoexuality from the DSM actually renoune the original view and now says treatment of homosexuality should be taken seriously?
I think this is a good opportunity to show this is a treatable behavior like any other sexual fetish.
The only thing that's changed is that the Pentagon has never bought into this PC bullroar.
pillow biting is a disease?
Doesn't the APA also state that beastiality is no longer a mental disorder--unless you choose to feel bad about doing it? The APA is in dire need of intensive therapy.
Yes -it is...
Looks like a good opportunity to insert some reality into the equation -maybe a military sponsored study untainted by the APA Kinsey cult of personality homosexologist moonbats?
More on the latest delusional homosexual activists encounter glimpses of reality and become enraged news story...
That's a given....sane folks do get this!!! Boy, we've got sane folks in our pentagon. ;o)
Every female homosexual that I have ever met was raped or molested.
They deserve our pity. If only the psychologists were competent, they could get help.
