A "corporatist" (correcting the spelling for ye there) is one who believes in the "corporative state".
The internet dictionary definition (above) misses the boat ~ way back when Commies and Nazis were referred to as "Fabians" (out of polite consideration) some were referred to as "corporatist" ~ having come up with the strange idea that central state control of mercantilist enterprise was the best way to distribute goods and services while retaining real political power in the hands of the "better sort", eh!
Yup, Webb is one of them.
Now, what's this about "sound like a Democrat"? Whachyou mean with that (using my best Richard Pryor voice)?.
He should win the Virginia election. At least he didn't vote for the shamenesty bill! I'll be doing all I can here to help him.
You're the one poll obsessed and THAT is a mark of a democrat.
muawiyah is a long time poster here. You're not.
Leaving aside the astounding silliness of your position that Virginia voters are more familiar with Webb than with Allen, the fact remains that Webb has not aired any ads at all whereas Allen has been on the airwaves for a couple weeks.
Everybody involved in the act KNEW what it was yet they persisted.
It was indefensible.
So you've gone from bashing Allen to grudgingly conceding that he'll win by a squeaker.
At least you're making progress.
I know you'll see to his reelection!
Whatever happened AFTER the primary is irrelevant to a relatively local poll which probably is not terribly current.
Old "Scoop" was pretty fond of raising taxes too. But I would still take him over a bloated old communist like Kennedy any day.
This is what you said: "The Dems had a contest ~ lots of advertising. Allen walked. This is simply name recognition for the moment."
I merely noted that Webb has not aired any advertising at all whereas Allen has been advertising for a couple weeks.
Beyond that, I don't know what your problem is and I don't care. Your statement was misleading and so I replied with a more accurate representation of the facts.
Oh goodie, another Pubbie seat in play. But Allen is so well known, that it will be tough for Webb to close the gap. The poll is more of a partisan template of Virginia itself. Very partisan figures tend to run to the template, all things being equal.
Webb seems to tolerate such behavior quite well, and allows it to be "excused" since, after all, Miller does have a large nose.
Webb has also spent a lot of time in Viet Nam hob-nobbing with their power elite.
What it gets down to is not a choice between a Scoop Jackson and a Teddy Kennedy (when it comes to Webb), but between a Teddy Kennedy and a John Kerry.
Otherwise we have to believe politicians spend their OWN MONEY on very expensive polling processes AFTER THE ELECTION!
The fact Webb draws even 41% simply reflects that he is benefiting from name-recognition generated during the Dem primary campaign.
Notwithstanding that indecipherable incoherence, the fact remains that Webb has not aired any ads at all whereas Allen has been advertising for a couple weeks.
This is absolutely true.
I saw the Webb add. And I think they were definitely trying to appeal to an anti-semitic sterotype to what end I'm not sure not knowing the electoral demographics of Virginia.
Based on his writings I see Webb as an old fashioned Scots-Irish brawler. I think if Webb and Miller were young and friends Webb might cast an anti-semitic slur at Miller, the two would punch each other for a while and then go have a beer. Its not personal with him I think.
Didn't Webb run ads in the primary?
Webb had one radio ad and that's it - no TV ads. Miller had a full-scale radio & tv ad campaign and Allen has been airing TV ads since Memorial Day.
