I think you've gotten this correctly . I also am wondering if a great deal of the immigration battle we have had among ourselves might not be a rope-a-dope for the Dims. Think about about this, it has forced a great deal of dialogue beyond the shouting, even the Senate is now having to look at it again, You're right ,the House Republicans have forced it to a standstill. They have also forced us as a Nation to look at an issue too long swept aside . I think for all the vitriol we have seen pourd onto the President, he has given us a winning hand in the end. What say you?

I learned something new. Thank you. So why was the Fairness Doctrine passed in 1967?

What do you reckon, folks?

Despite what the media would have us believe, America is not Germany in the 1930's. We will not put the Democrats in power.

Things like the fairness doctrine have long history in broadcasting usually implemented by the FCC as rules authorized by the Communications act of 1934 as amended.

For example in 1943 during WWII the FCC ruled that it was illegal to editorialize against the war. Plus the military (then called the department of war) issued a ruling that all war correspondents had to be members of the military. That meant reporters had no constitutional protections. They were subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. All reports by war correspondents during World War II had to be approved by a military censor (yes that was the job title) before they could be aired or printed. All correspondents were given the rank equivalent to a 2nd Lieutenant except they had no command authority. Enlisted men had to salute them.

LBJ was very angry at the coverage of the Viet Nam war and his appointees to the FCC adopted the Fairness Doctrine. That said that every time a commentator made a remark supporting one side of an issue of controversial importance he must make an equal remark about the other side of the issue.

If a station put on a conservative report, they must before it airs find people who hold other views on the subject and give them equal time. If there were then a third croup that held a differing view they must be given equal time and that would then require the first two groups to be given a second dose of equal time... etc.

If there was group that was not found and offered air time before the first broadcast then the station was guilty of violating the fairness doctrine.

Network Newscasts... such the Cronkite, Jennings and Brokaw were exempt from the law.

This time they are talking about implementing the Fairness doctrine as a law passed by congress and apply it to the INTERNET as well as broadcasting. That would make Rush, Hannity, and all of talk radio impossible to do and Free Republic impossible too.

The cost to the left would be KOS but that is a site most Democrats in congress see as a negative for their side.

Reagan had to jump through real hoops to do his five minute talk shows on Radio in the 1970s. He vowed to get people on the FCC who would repeal the Fairness Doctrine and by 1987 he had appointed enough FCC members to get the job done.

This time they don't want something a Reagan type president could undo.. they want a law passed by congress. They just have to get control of congress to do it.

I fear many here on FR are going to do all they can to see that the Democrats get it done.

Some here on FR are saying..

The Republicans are bowing to the Democrats too much. Lets punish the Republicans by sitting on hour hands and let Democrats get elected.

That makes about as much sense as:

The Cops are bowing to the criminals too much. Lets punish the cops by making the criminals the cops.

I think the polling is flat-out wrong. That is why I use the failure of the Dixie Chicks tour as an indicator of the public mood. It is one thing to tell a pollster that you are unhappy with the President, but it is another thing altogether to pony up $100 for a couple of tickets to see a Bush-bashing concert.

Similarly, it is one thing to respond to a poll in order to "send a message" and another thing to go into a voting booth and pull the lever. I think that people are unhappy, but when push comes to shove, they are going to come down on the side of President Bush and the Republicans.

So, I think Santorum will win. I think DeWine will win as well. I think if they just ignore the slanted polling and run their races, they'll do just fine.

I reckon that from a conservative point of view, there may be a "we" in the house, but there's nothing close to "we" in the Senate. Too many Kennedy wannabe RINOs.

Well, I'm working on it. I've been making phone calls and doing mailings for the Green Team for the past month of so. Soon we'll be canvassing and sticking yard signs everywhere...though in Madistan they'll be set ablaze as soon as we stake them in. *Rolleyes* You should've seen some of the destruction this Socialist Utopia brought down upon we Pubbies in 2004. Our GOP HQs was tagged and had windows broken in Madistan, and of course all the horsehockey that went on in Milwaukee with the voter van tires being slashed and swastikas burned into lawns.

I'm sure 2006 will bring another round of violence. The Moonbats around here are officially "over the edge" and getting dangerous. Their ire will only grow the closer we get to November.

Walker was my man, too, but I see big things in his future. Man, this state lacks LEADERSHIP in so many key positions, it isn't funny anymore. We sure have gone backwards since Tommy left us for Washington, DC. ;)

Thanks for the comparison and I totally agree. Thrilled the Dipsy Chicks are bombing out in so many places. These loud mouth liberals just don't get away with it so much any"moore"...pun...thank goodness! And, oh by the way, what's he up to these days...hiding under a very big rock I guess. What are your thoughts on the Nelson race in FL? I'm very surprised K Harris isn't doing better but will she in the end also?

People have been saying in polls for years (even when Democrats were in control) that they don't approve of Congress. Nevertheless, the same people then vote then vote to re-elect their own Congressman!
