Rep. Alan Mollohan (D-W.Va.) temporarily relinquished his position as the top Democrat on the House ethics committee Friday, two weeks after questions surfaced about his financial dealings.
I have reluctantly concluded that the interests of both the [ethics] committee and my constituents would best be served by my temporarily stepping aside as ranking member while I deal with this attack, the West Virginian wrote to House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) Friday.
Pelosi accepted his request in a press release, praising his work and calling the attacks an attempt to deflect attention from the long list of Republican criminal investigations, indictments, plea agreements, and resignations.
Still, it was Pelosi who placed a telephone call to Mollohan Friday morning to ask for his temporary resignation, a Democratic source said.
House Democrats have come under increasing pressure to demote Mollohan. The editorial boards of the Washington Post, and the New York Times, as well as the liberal-leaning watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington have all weighed in against him. The National Republican Congressional Committee last week began sponsoring automated calls in four Democratic districts urging constituents to demand that their congressman ask for Mollohans resignation.
Mollohan remained defiant in his letter to Pelosi. He called the allegations meritless, frivolous and a concerted, politically motivated attack on my ethics.
The charges stem from a complaint filed with federal authorities by the National Law and Policy Center.
To fill Mollohans post, Pelosi passed over the next ranking Democrat on the committee, Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (Ohio), opting instead to elevate Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.). Tubbs Jones faced ethics questions over a 2001 trip to Puerto Rico which was initially reported as having been partly paid for by a lobbyist, a violation of House rules. Tubbs Jones has since amended her filings...

Culture of Corruption? Oh, I forgot; he's a (D).
It's culture of corruption!
Jeez. What'd he do, get Hillary to teach him cattle futures trading?
Be careful what you ask for bump.
ROTFLMAO!
The Good Congressman's return on investment is almost as good as was The Former Twelfth Lady's when she was back in Little Rock.
He must of had HITLERY'S cattle broker.
sounds like a "windfall profit",better get Reid on the case.
Well, the guy's talents are/have been wasted on the Congressional ethics committee. He should be managing an ethical investment portfolio on Wall Street.
Of course, Tubb Jones has ethics problems of her own, so Nancy had to dig into the third string.
I hope Berman is clean, as it looks like the Dem bench is getting thinned out.

ROFL ! another democratic showing us his corruption! there IS a culture of corruption in DC, and it's the democrats! I say we clean house in November and throw the bums (democrats) out !
New Democratic Yogurt! Now with more active corruption cultures!!
You read my mind.
Pelosi has faced her own, similar ethics questions, but Tubbs Jones is black and Berman is white.
By the time this is done, the Democrats are going to wish they'd never heard of "The Culture Of Corruption".
Hey, does anyone have a scoreboard? I need to show a lib the truth.
I have said that this tactic will backfire on them and it look like I was right. The RATS behave like there is still only three forms of news, NBC, ABC, and CBS. WRONG!!!!. They hit the Internet without a clue, and Fox news doesn't help them at all. The lies of their unindicted co-conspiritors (MSM) can be tracked by the pajamahadine in a heart beat and the real truth sent around the world as fast as an electron can move.
This simple fact makes me sleep better at night, knowing that the RATS will be exposed to the truth and they can't hide from the light of the truth.
