Two major issues were used by the President in the run up to war with Iraq. One was the WMD issue and the other was Iraq's support for Al Qaeda.
Since the war began in March 2003, the Democrats and media have repeatedly lied to the American public that Saddam didn't have a relationship with Al Qaeda or Osama bin Laden. They have been permitted to lie without challenge by Congressional Republicans or the President or his administration.
It is well past time that we educate Republican Congressmen and the conservative media, and try to encourage Tony Snow and Karl Rove on the importance of not letting this lie go unchallenged.
Since the 1990's, the media wrote dozens and dozens of articles about the world's alarm at the growing relationship Saddam and Iraqi military officers had with Al Qaeda and bin Laden. In the next post, I will detail some of those links.
Additionally, our very own freeper, translator and national treasure, jveritas, has translated documents which show that Saddam had direct ties to the Taliban in Afghanistan.
It is my firm belief that if more Americans knew about the relationships discussed above, support for the war and our beloved military would increase substantially. The media has gotten away with this lie for long enough.
I am looking for specific suggestions on how to get the word out to the administration with the suggestion they use this evidence of a relationship between Saddam and the jihadists more often, and how to directly write or call our Congressmen, the media, Ken Mehlman as Chair of the GOP, talk radio hosts, etc.
On a completely different topic, I was looking into the connection of Osama and the attempt to blow up a nuclear reactor during the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. I don't want to hijack Peach's thread, however, I have in-laws in Australia. Some are pro-America and some are openly hostile. The ones that are pro-America told me right after 9/11 that Osama had tried to blow up a nuclear reactor in downtown Sydney. These in-laws visited Bali just before the attack on Australians vacationing there. I found a lot of info online, but have not heard many references to this foiled "dirty bomb" nuclear attempt on the 2000 Olympics. Here is a link for your future reference: LINK Note that this is before the attack on America for those on the left that think "America had it coming".
the thing that bothers me the most about this is the Administration's lack of efforts to expose this
Faxes and phone calls are best.
"The 1950s-vintage nuclear reactor in Sydney is not a power plant. It is used for scientific and medical research"
Thanks, Peach! I have a lot of work to do I see!
I wonder what is up with the new CIA Director, though. Something funny going on there. Gen. Hayden was asked to apologize for and clarify his comments [the Feith thing] from the Senate hearing--in writing and has not done so. I hope he is not another one of those "rogue elements"! UGH!
Wow! Great find! I am going to save that photo as well. Thanks for posting it!
Excerpts from http://www.satp.org/satporgtp/usa/international_links.htm
March 1991, Iran dispatched several terrorist squads to Canada for operations in the U.S., both independently and in support of local networks. One of these hit teams would assassinate Mrs. Rafizadeh, the wife of a senior intelligence official of the Shah's regime, in New Jersey on March 26, 1992. A milestone in the emergence of Islamist terrorism in the U.S. took place on October 18, 1991. The International Terrorist Summit convened in Tehran decided on a rejuvenated Jihad in the U.S. as part of the Iranian-led pan-Islamist strategy of confronting Pax-Americana.
From December 1992 through January 1993, Iran conducted a strategic test of the entire concept of a US operation. Former foreign minister Ibrahim Yazdi arrived on a secret mission with a reconciliation initiative at the same time that Tehran transmitted through back channels an explicit threat of "war between the SAVAMA and the CIA." Yazdi's initiative was rebuffed. On January 24, 1993, Mir Aimal Kansi, a Pakistani Iranian agent, killed several people at the entrance to the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, demonstrating that Tehran was serious. From January 22-26, 1993, Tehran further tested the U.S. reaction system in the form of phone calls from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine threatening to blow up a skyscraper in New York.
Assumed: Since there was no special reaction from Washington, Tehran concluded that terrorist operations should proceed as planned.
Ali Mohammed, 48, an ex-US Army Sergeant of Egyptian origin pleaded guilty before a US District Judge in October 2000 to a charge of plotting with Osama bin Laden to kill Americans anywhere in the world. He also admitted that he had helped in secretly moving bin Laden from Pakistan to Sudan and trained members of his Al Qaeda outfit. Pakistan and Afghanistan-based Islamist terrorists have recruited members from the Muslim communities in North America as also the Caribbean Islands to utilise them for terrorist operations against US interests in West Asia and also for promoting Jehad in the US. Ramzi Ahmed Yousef of Pakistani origin and other US-based Muslim mercenaries of bin Laden were responsible for the explosion inside the World Trade Centre in February 1993. The Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) are members of Osama bin Laden's International Islamic Front for Jihad Against the US and Israel.
Pakistan had disclosed in April 1993 that 6,170 Arab Mujahideen (HuM) were registered for stay in Pakistan. The breakup was as follows:
Egypt 1142, Morocco 102, Saudi Arabia 981, Qatar 92, Yemen 946 , Jordan 77, Algeria 792, Palestine 70 , Iraq 326, Kuwait 60 , Syria 292, Bahrain 35, Sudan 234, Omam 11, Tunisia 117 ,

Research reactors were pretty common in this country when we entered the nuclear age, however, my latest info suggests that we are now down to about 25 or so.

Because there was a democrat in the White House in the 1990's, and journalists are too friggin lazy to do a LexisNexis search of their own archives.
The White House needs to be out in front on this issue. I've had it with the media, and I don't trust the GOP Congress to carry the White House water.
Hi, Shelayne. I heard Hayden during the hearing say he didn't agree with those memos though and I was so discouraged I nearly bashed my head into a wall. LOL
Writing Hoekstra is a good idea, Dolphy, and I will do so today as well. Thanks for writing.
Thank you, goodnesswins! I appreciate the help.
BUMP!
Good work, Peach.
An AWESOME compendium, Peach.
Thanks so much for helping us all discuss this.
