A doctor and a consumer group have sued KFC in an effort to stop the chicken chain from cooking with high-fat partially hydrogenated oil.
Dr. Arthur Hoyte, a retired physician from Rockville, Md., and the Center for Science in the Public Interest, want a judge to order Kentucky Fried Chicken to use other types of cooking oils or make sure customers know about trans fat content immediately before they make a purchase.
KFC spokeswoman Laurie Schalow called the lawsuit frivolous and said the company will fight it in court. Schalow said KFC is looking at using other types of oil for cooking, but it is committed to maintaining "KFC's unique taste and flavor."
KFC provides nutrition and fat information to consumers online and in restaurants, Schalow said.
"We have for a very long time," she said.
Michael Jacobsen, the executive director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, said Louisville-based KFC parent company Yum Brands Inc. knows that other, healthier cooking products are available.
"KFC knows this, yet it recklessly puts its customers at risk of a Kentucky Fried Coronary," Jacobsen said.

So is health insurance.
You're right. Home cooked meals ARE cheaper, tastier and more nutritious than take out. I don't get why people don't cook much any more. Yeah, it's a little work, but worth the effort (mmmmm, leftovers!) I know people who eat fast food three or four times a week. I go maybe every two months. I chalk it up to laziness. A lot of Americans have become such spoiled and lazy gluttons. But it's their own choice to make.
Nah, I think it's a good one.
There is a difference between accidents and slowly killing yourself through lack of control and laziness.
No one makes you participate in sports. No one makes you have kids. The only thing actually out of your control is infections, and even those are somewhat in your control.
Gluttony is a sin ya know.
So is selfishness and pride.
I don't think there will be a problem with fried chicken soon, avian flu will kill all the birds in the world.
Something to do with Global Warming.
Little brother is just as bad....
I've got bad news for the guy. They just love fried chicken in china!!!
Yes.
Did your parents ever force you to go outside and play or eat your vegetables?
Yes, but now that I'm all grown up, I don't want the government to start acting like surrogate parents to each of its subjects, er, citizens.
Must get you a little upset seeing GWBush, Laura and Condi push a healthy lifestyle. How do you feel about them taking pizza and soda pop out of schools?
On the other hand, in a free society, people have to right to assume personal risk, such as smoking, drinking, mountain-climbing, or eating lard. They also have the obligation to pay the consequences for assuming said risks.
It's a massive nanny state intrusion that will be one of many things that will eventually lead to blood in the streets.
Maybe I was a little hard on you with my last post.
Don't worry, whenever you get to the section on the U.S. Constitution at your school (4th grade at a good private school - before the end of Jr. High at a decent public school - never at most public schools, in which case you will need to take it upon yourself to study it), you will understand.
"Smokers warned fast food eaters. Fast food eaters didn't listen. You broke the dam"
Exactly. We knew this was coming.
Did they think it would stop at smokers?
Fools, fools, fools.
"Will that open a precedent window to come after parents for having a stick of margarine on the table?"
It would seem so.
They say smokers are the equivalent to child-abusers, so following that lgic, you could come to the conclusion that anyone who allows their children to consume unhealthy foods would also be "abusing", or en-dangering them.
Welcome to 1984.
lgic=logic
Duh!
Oh, brother.
I rarely eat KFC, or any other fast food for that matter. But when I do, it's because I have a wild, insane craving for something deliciously BAD for me. Original recipe chicken is just DRIPPING in bad stuff. Everybody knows that.
I didn't understand the `1984' reference.
It is a reference to the book 1984, where big brother is always watching you, and the thought police rule the land.
