Ward Churchill, the professor who called some of the World Trade Center victims “little Eichmanns,” should be fired because of “repeated and deliberate” infractions of scholarship rules, a University of Colorado committee said today.
The recommendation, which came on a 6-3 vote, now goes to university officials for a final decision.
Ward is just the tip of the iceberg of radical lefties in our tax payer funded Universities.
The fellow, tenured pinheads took out big newspaper ads and held marches in support of Ward.
Unbelievable.
I read the final report, all 125 pages of it. It was extremely interesting.
Here's a link:

No matter what you think of the people there, I thought the report was very well done and fair. I don't think it would be possible to argue against its conclusions as written.
Essentially, the report says that Churchill made up many of his references and misrepresented many others. He would write a paper and have one of his students publish it under their name. Then he would refer to the paper in one of his own writings as a reference to back up his work.
He was caught because he was accused of plaguarizing one of the works allegedly "written" by a student. To get out of that charge, he had to admit that he had written the original work and was therefore copying himself.
But then they found out he also cited that work, to bolster his completely off the wall claims.
From the point of view of an academic, what he did is absolutely the worst sin you can be condemned of, much worse than having strange opinions about 9/11 or anything else.
It's particularly disquieting since, as the report said, it seems clear that he would have gotten completely away with it, beause few actually analyze the works of others in any depth, especially in the rather lax ethnic studies fields. The reason he's on the hot seat is that people found out about the outrageous 9/11 article and then started digging to see if they could find anything they could condemn him with.
The upshot is that now we know Ward Churchill is a phony and a fraud, thanks to people who were angered by the 9/11 article. Now the academics are embarassed that they have found this kind of problem because of conservatives. What other phonies and frauds might be lurking in the groves of academe?
Nobody knows, and that could be embarassing. Worse, even, than Ward Churchill who was always known as a bit of a loose cannon.

Now, if only the University will follow through with it.
Thanks for the summary.
One wonders if , by their silence, the University Professors approve of this academic plaguarizing ?
By their silence, are these common and approved practices in the University that are only now being exposed ?
The Professors should publically ask Ward to resign. They took out big newspaper ads and marched in support of Ward earlier.
"Churchill made up many of his references and misrepresented many others. He would write a paper and have one of his students publish it under their name. Then he would refer to the paper in one of his own writings as a reference to back up his work."
Firing Churchill for what he has done and setting up a new standard to prevent new Churchills would eliminate a very large % of so called professors across America.
It would be similiar if every Dinosaur Fishwrap would fire any writer/editor who wrote a story based on lies, deceit, spins like the TANG/GW bs by Blather and Mapes. There wouldn't be many so called journalists and editors left in America from the current crop of liars.
Score: One campus commie down, millions to go.

If they are forced to fire Faux Indian and Professor Churchill and set up real standards for profession papers, thesises and other so called data from other Faux professors, there would be a massive firing of thousands of other Faux Professors across the 50 states.
Then the cost of a college education might actuall come down.
Ward is just the tip of the iceberg...like Jayson B at NYSlimes.
The corruption under him now being exposed.
I don't think they are approved practices, but how common they are is definitely worth checking.
I think the basic problem is that in Ethnic Studies you are trying to find support to a pre-determined conclusion, and so any evidence in support of it is not generally questioned unless there's a pre-existing controversy.
Let's say I write a Physics paper and cite a source to prove Newton's Laws. Is anyone going to question that the source is correct? Everyone knows Newton's Laws are valid, so there's no need to check the source ... right?
Let's say Ward Churchill writes a paper where he says that a certain document says that a specific "blood quantum" is required - that is, to be an Indian, you have to have some Indian blood in you. Does anyone check? Of course not! It all sounds perfectly reasonable.
Actually, the document says nothing of the kind.
Also, understand that Churchill lied about his Indian blood and nonetheless some consider him a member of a tribe, at least by marriage. But others think he's an obnoxious fool who does not speak for Indians at all. So the blood quantum requirement, which he would flunk, is an enormously emotional issue for him.
To you or me it may seem that there is nothing wrong with requiring that someone be an "Indian" in order to receive Indian benefits, but of course he does not. He claims in his papers that to require the blood quantum means extinguishing Indian tribes as they intermarry with non-Indians and the "blood quantum" decreases.
So he had a big emotional stake in this issue and I think that caused him to muddy the waters.
The cold truth is that unless you have severe critics, nobody's going to check your sources. It's easy to simply believe him unless someone on the other side has a similar emotional stake.

Have you read this ?
"...Ward Churchill would do himself some good to express a profound apology to people he has offended and misled.
He should also come clean about his appropriated American Indian identity. "

He's nothing more than a radical old hippie. I'm hoping and praying he gets fired.
Churchill's original 1978 application to the school for a position as a lecturer in Native American studies included a completed federal affirmative action form, on which he claimed "American Indian" ethnicity, according to records obtained Thursday by KHOW radio talk show host Dan Caplis through open records law requests to CU.
A second document obtained by Caplis, a 1990 application by Churchill for the position of associate professor of American Indian Studies, prior to his receiving tenure, also shows that Churchill claimed "American Indian" status.
An affirmative action data collection form shows that 11 American Indians applied, but only two, including Churchill, were interviewed.
"If he is not Native American, if he lied about his ethnicity to get a job in the Equal Opportunity program, I think they would fire him on those ground alone," Caplis said.
He should be prosecuted.
Those who hired Churchill
and made him a Department Head
and gave him a $90-100,000 salary
should be in a Psych Ward.
I think the professors did condemn the practices, in strong terms, in the report.
Although, come to think of it, it was pretty narrow. It didn't address the fraudulent nature of the Indian blood claims, for example.
Churchill should be fired. He'll never resign.
Do you know how popular he is with students? His classes are probably good entertainment. And I'll bet his grading's really easy for anyone who agrees with him(*). He'll even write your paper for you if you don't want to do it!
D
(*) Anyone who disagrees with him would be a complete idiot to take his course, but you know and I know that, and I'm sure students know too.
" When one of his students, a Mandan-Hidatsa Indian, wrote a piece raising doubts about his claimed biography, he dropped her grade from an A to a C-minus."
