Terrorists target civilians in Iraq

ABU DHABI — The US troops in Iraq do not carry out target killing of civilians in the war-torn country, Hoshyar Zebari, Iraqi Foreign Minister, has asserted.

‘The US forces do not kill civilians. Yes, civilians got killed in Haditha and other places but it is the terrorists who target civilians in Iraq,” said Zebari, to a question posed by Khaleej Times on measures adopted by his government to protect civilians.

Zebari was taking part in the first pan-Arab Broadcast Forum held in Abu Dhabi recently.

“More than 40 to 50 Iraqis are killed daily at markets, places of worship and gatherings due to suicidal terrorist bombings. This is the solid truth which journalists cannot beat us on," he added. Cases of killings of civilians in Iraq, have raised worldwide concern over US conduct in the war-torn country. A case in point is a recent report filed by Iraqi police which accused US troops of rounding up and deliberately shooting 11 people in a house, including five children and four women, before blowing up the building.

Regarding video footages shown by some TV channels on American soldiers breaking into houses and killing civilians, Zebari said: “There are daily military operations but there are also videos that show scattered corpses that is more worthy to be displayed.”

On the political situation in Iraq, the minister said: “We have managed to complete the period of transition concerning the political process over the past three years, and now have a constitutional government and an elected parliament.”

“It is now up to us Iraqis to make the difference to lead the country,” he said lauding the coalition forces.

Interesting? Well, maybe. My word would be "disgusting"--among other, less printable words.

Well yes, that would be a much better word come to think on it. :-) So would despicable.

Press awards and political advancement was gained by negative, sensational news coverage during the Vietnam era. This fact was not lost on the left wing press and pols living in the past.

In the new era people can know the truth thanks to the Internet. Force feeding the anti American propaganda is not working this time around.

Great post. I suspect that the Haditha "massacre" will soon be exposed as a hoax.

True, you'll never see a story like this in the New York Times. I have no reason to spend one dime of my money on our putrid news media.

"I thought the same thing about that quote. I imagine the pressure is great."
PM Maliki and his cabinet members are under enourmouse pressure as many of us can realize. It taint going to be easy, but, here we have the first modern democratically elected (to a point I realize), IG that is actually making a move to make Iraq one. A free state where violence is not welcome nor will be tolerated. GWB's statements though terse, shall some day be better understood by many people, who just blink and forget currently.
To many people are instructed by so many different sources, which taken alone can make a lot of sense, due to what we understand about the various Islamic sects, offshoot groups such as the Salafist, Wahhabist, Qutbist etc., Muslim history in general, which has opened up in phenominal ways in the past few years, etc..
And these things can easily overshadow simply phrases such as most all people really want to be free, to be able to make choices as who governs them etc..
I truly think the majority of Iraqi, both Kurds,Turkomen, Christians, Jews, other minorities, Shiite, and Sunni, most all really want peace and their country to start to recover then prosper in the future.
And they realize the chance is at hand if a strong IG can with the aid of the coalition forces stamp out most of the insurgency, leading to a point where only IG forces will be able to put the rest of the garbage on the trash heap of history.

Agreed. After a couple of posts yesterday that won't leave me alone : ) -Aloha Ronnie's remarks about the Vietnamese comments in the last American election and Dr. Raoul responding to the Code Pink commie question "Is it Vietnam yet?" with "Is it Kent State yet?

my thoughts this morning are:

1. What must it be like for the Vietnamese watching this unfold?

2. What reaction would the Iraqi people have to a real knowledge of what the left did to their counterparts 30 years ago...do they understand the war being fought here in American politics on American soil, on their behalf? And do they understand the ramifications of a loss?

You made some very good points in your posts. Surely many NAM Vets view the L/MSM with total disdain as they see history repeating itself. Secondly, a lot of Iraqi that watch western news probably wonder if US troops will abandon them, based on all the crap the libs keep pumping out.
