This is one of the reasons why I do not believe the Marines did what they were accused of doing in Haditha. This is nothing new, Iraqis have tried this stuff before saying that women and children were killed in coalition strikes and when investigated it wasn´t true. Many people in the area of the safehouse are not friends of the new government in Iraq. Maybe the "witness" was the owner of the safehouse making up stories as many there are known to do to discredit the US and its allies. Many of us would question the testimony of the enemy, except the MSM. The MSM often sides with the enemy and welcomes, without question, any testimony detrimental to the USA.
