How about if the Iraqi prime minister says that stupid, unpatriotic Americans who live on the East and West Coast are parroting the views of CBS, NBC and ABC, and that it is irresponsibly prolongling the war in Iraq by doing that? What would be the reaction then?

That really is a key difference between most of Europe and the US. What the masses want is what happens in the US.That is only occasionally true when the masses actually focus on something. Otherwise, the two major party elites pretty much have their way and sprinkle it with PR.
Witness the current immigration fiasco. What makes this issue unusual is that the masses focused on it about 3/4 of the way thru the debate. The elites thought they were going to have their way and then the illegals had their mexican-flag-waving riot. Suddenly, the public focuses and their are their representatives naked, trying to do something 70% of the public thinks is a really bad idea. All the jostling now is politicians trying to figure out how to finish up without destroying their careers--and we are still likely to have some form of an amnesty program sprinkled with a little, symbolic border security.
But except for these rare instances, we are manipulated like 5 year olds most of the time.
What pisses off the UN is that W won't do the usual soft-focus, "poor-kids-and-UNESCO" propaganda that all previous administrations have engaged in. But the public has still not focused on the UN. They just generally have a worse impression of the UN than they did 20 years ago. But they won't vote for a politician based on his UN position.
Until that happens, it'll be business as usual.

"It's tough to take seriously someone who refers to "the most recognized talk show host in America" as "Mr. Limbower." Brown is just flat weird."
Funny thing is, this clown is English as well. You'd think he could read names.
I suppose he'd be happier if our news was controlled by a bunch of tax payer funded, unaccountable, arrogant, loony left idiots like they have at the BBC in England.

Right now, this is an unprecedented standoff. A spokesman for Mr. Annan said his boss stands by the remarks. It's not clear where we go from here. How about the US getting out of the UN and the UN getting out of the US. That would be a great start.

That silly sculpture they have out front could be re-cast into something really useful, like guitar strings or something.

This morning I was having coffee at a neighbor's home, and she had fox on, and Steve, E.D. and Brian were talking about what to do with the UN building AFTER we kicked Annan out along with his buddies....
"A two bedroom penthouse, all niceties included: $134million" and then they reported because it was the UN they don't pay taxes, federal or state or city, and the city of Manhatten is loosing 13million dollars a year....well we both laughed and said that if Bloomy realizes that he would kick the UN out just the money for Manhatten....
But really, think about it, prime property, and what good is the UN anyway....we should tell them to go to Africa or somewhere where they can't do anything to anyone....

U.N. Deputy Secretary-General Mark Malloch Brown, a Briton, was best known as a confidante of U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan who rents his Westchester home from billionaire buddy George Soros at a price only slightly lower than his U.N. salary. Well, AIN'T that special?!!!

The Masses, a wonderful term, used and misused. There is general agreement that the term refers to an unthinking segment of the population with allegiance to an elite cadre of opinion makers. They are found in very large numbers in DC, NYC, Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago and other capitols dominated by the effete.
The masses are most easily swayed by snobbery and conceit. They disguise their abysmal ignorance with appeals to their heroes. A perfect illustration of the danger of the domination of the masses by elitists is the near election by Kerry and Gore. Only a society with a substantial minority of profoundly ignorant citizens could have made these dual travesties possible.
Moral and intellectual terpitude IS breaking down. The fatuous ravings of lUNatics is a cold shock to those stupified lemmings who believe that the Kennedys and the Clintons and their ilk are acceptable. They are not and the sooner they are rejected as madmen the sooner our nation will begin to heal.

Please do not confuse Mr Brown with being English , he is SCOTTISH! Descended from Irishmen who could swim.
You know, skirts for men, bagpipes, haggis etc. You may review and revise your remarks as appropriate.

I also like to use the term "herd". A term Nietzsche used extensively. I dont agree with his views either. But I do steal his choice of words when I think they appropriately fit into the context of a discussion.
But you are right. Its the Eurocratic socialist/centralist who would use the term masses in context of his own people even. The masses are stupid and need to be told and directed even steered into what decisions they need to make. That equates to a free market economy and personal freedoms in many European minds.
Example: Tax fuel at a rate that is Three times that in the US on average. Tax a vehicle on cubic displacement. Charge all kinds off fees and even make a drivers license an expensive ordeal .
On the other hand Subsidize a dead and non profitable Deutsche Bahn (Rail) for years and allow people to ride on these public transportation means at costs that are actually beneath their real expense since the state is pumping money into a pseudo private firm that has been in the red for years.
This is what you call Social Engineering. Many here in the US even look at this stupidity and state, Gee, they really have that public transportation thing figured out. We need to do the same!
The consumer has in reality a constant hand that guides him through his whole life. Even the car he will purchase is in reality largely legislated. He simply cant afford that 5.0 liter engine, thats why Fritz does not have one! Give a German the chance and hell buy a 600SEL. The reason why they drive little communist cars in Germany or France is because they have become little communist societies. 25 years ago there was a car called the Trabant:
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trabant_(Pkw)
Today the new socialist drives a SMART:
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_(Auto)
Social Engineers think that through Newspeak or taxation, laws and other methods they can warp the basic principals of economics. They think that somehow when they subsidize, create massive social structures, push their ideological agenda in ecology, marriage, defense, justice and other aspects, that somehow they will not be affected by this. The socialist will blame his failure on the capitalist. You see this in our own society where the liberal always tries to play the classes against each other, or in the UN where all third rate tin pot regimes blame the West for their poverty, or today in Germany where you have a lingering economy with no growth, high unemployment, growing debt they blame the US indirectly (Its the oil prices, globalization or whatever). The socialist believes in an economically flawed system. He embraces a belief (because it cannot stand up against historical facts or present day economic theory) that is economically destructive. It is hard to find ANY socialist state that has EVER prospered in the long run. But this does not deter the socialist. They repackage their ideas and re-label them, but its always the same in concept. High degree of state stake in the economy, centralization of power, control over key and critical infrastructure, large subsidies, a near command driven economy and the cure is always the same as well. The cure to problems once they occur, and they will, is a five year plan.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_the_Soviet_Union
Once the socialist gets in trouble do they unbridled the economy? Hell NO! Their answer is more government and more state funds. How could cutting taxes lead to economic growth? Thats a conundrum in the socialist mind.
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hartz-Konzept
Of course- A massive state commission that does a study. Please, do not confuse the Hartz plan with a Soviet five year plan. Do you know who the number one man on this commission was? One of the heads of the state run Deutsche Bahn. See some irony here?
The socialist thinker can not imagine that the masses actually behave quiet rationally. That a free market left to its own devices actually can regulate and constantly readjusts and streamlines itself to best meet the changing environmental factors. The socialist believes that only an omniscient and omnipotent state can regulate the vast and complex economy of a nation. Understanding that this is the perceptive starting block of most European thinkers when it comes to economics, justice, defense, and personal rights/freedom largely explains their behavior and comments. Look at privately owned handguns. The state has the monopoly on that. What about your retirement? Your medical plan? Even your own education! The state has his guiding hands in every aspect of your life in most of Europe; right down to the car you drive. To many Europeans it is perplexing to see a nation such as the US with it's near chaotic and non regulated economy succeed.

And Bush who wanted amnesty and not send any troops to the boarder is doing what now?
And why was he pandering to the Hispanic vote in the First place? Darn, I gave away the answer; "VOTES".
In the US what the masses want the masses get. What we have today is a pendulum that has swung a bit more right. Years ago it was a bit more left and abortion, liberal courts..... are a product of this era. What you are complaining about is a product of what the masses want or at some time wanted.
