DAN Rather could be gone from CBS News by the end of the year. After months of negotiations, the former anchor - now a "60 Minutes" correspondent - has not been able to make a deal to remain with CBS - and is reportedly bothered that the network where he worked for the last 44 years does not seem to want him anymore.
Rather, whose contract expires at the end of this year, had hoped to finish his career as a full-time correspondent at "60 Minutes."
"But it doesn't seem like [CBS] wants him there" now, says an industry insider.

And we all serenaded him with the old Three Dog Night song, "Liar," as his broken down butt went out into the darkness.

About a week ago (or maybe longer) some Freeper posted the exclusive news that CBS had no intention of offering Rather a deal - in effect, he was fired.

Live by the sword Die by the sword.
Why is Dan Rather "bothered"? He has spent his career working for people who are just like him, so why would he not understand that he is being thrown under a bus? I'm sure his path to the top anchor spot is strewn with the careers of people that he destroyed.

So what's the problem? All he has to do is type himself up a new contract, have it faxed to him from Kinko's, and demand that CBS abide by it (even if it's fake, that doesn't mean the terms are not accurate).

This should give him plenty of time to research his 'fake but accurate' story, and get those damn fonts to line up right. I can just imagine him in front of a typewriter, hour after hour, with a stack of crumpled papers at his feet, trying to re-create that memo.
