BRAMPTON, Ont. (CP) - One of the suspects in a Toronto terror plot is accused of wanting to behead Canada's prime minister, his lawyer said Tuesday.
Lawyer Gary Batasar says the allegations against his client are very serious and include his personal threat against the prime minister.
Steven Chand is also accused of plotting to storm and bomb various buildings, he says.
Chand is among 17 people accused of plotting to stage a massive terrorist attack in southern Ontario.
Fifteen of the 17 people facing charges are in court today.
Family members who arrived to support them were met by a horde of media from across Canada and the U.S.
"The allegations... are quite serious, including storming and bombing of various buildings," Batasar told a crowd of reporters outside the Brampton, Ont., courthouse.
"There's an allegation that my client personally indicated that he wanted to behead the prime minister of Canada."

Sounds like he is giving the liberal media what they need to blame the terror threat on the conservative win in Canada's last election.

"...what is wanting to be instilled in the public is fear," Batasar said."
You stinking liberal attorney. It's the terrorists who instill fear. Leave it to a stinking liberal attorney to turn truth on it's head.
Disgusting.

"There's an allegation that my client personally indicated that he wanted to behead the prime minister of Canada." I really don't think the attorney for his defense should be repeating that allegation publicly... unless perhaps, he's trying to hopelessly taint the jury pool.

.....unless, perhaps,he's hopelessly trying to taint the jury pool.My first thoughts. Canadian law, like American law based on much the same principles. Lawyer -client confidentiality.
On the lighter side, the accused was said to have said the CBC should be blown up. Hmm, a strong advocate against what is being done in Iraq. No, CBC is in a way like CNN. (perish my thoughts). LOL

The CBC (I refer to it as the Canuckistan Broadcorping Castration) makes the NYT, Washington COMpost, the US alphabet networks, and CNN look like far-right propaganda machines. It's taxpayer funded, too, to the tune of a billion bucks plus per year.

Note that the lawyer didn't say WHICH PM his client was alleged to have wanted to behead. Remember, this plot was being investigated for 2 years. He could have wanted to behead the Canadian Prime Minister, regardless of party. Paul Martin was Prime Minister for more of that time than Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
