PROVIDENCE, R.I. U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy said Monday he was feeling good after nearly a month in drug rehabilitation and was looking forward to getting back to work.
"I can tell you today, I feel confident about my health, positive about my future, and passionate about my work representing the people of Rhode Island," the Rhode Island Democrat said in a speech at Brown University on the future of mental health care and addiction treatment.
It was his first public appearance since being released Friday from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
The six-term congressman checked into the clinic on May 5, one day after a middle-of-the-night car crash near the U.S. Capitol that he said he could not remember. He also had been treated at the clinic over the Christmas holidays.
Kennedy called the accident "a wake up call" and said he was grateful he did not hurt anyone.

After a months vacation in the Kennedy wing of the Mayo clinic, he ought to feel good.
Any of the rest of us would be sitting in jail for driving under the influence (alcohol or prescribed drugs) and wrecking a car.

"I give him 6 weeks before he has another episode...."
Three weeks, and you're on. (voice of experience.)

Oh, well. Usually the rehab takes about the same amount of time that it takes for the story to be out of the news cycle. "Kennedy caught in drunken embarrassing moment involving (a) a woman or (b) a vehicle or (c) skis and trees or (d) underage babysitter" should be part of the generic newspaper. It has headlines like "Pope Denounces Violence" and "Critical Flaw Found in Internet Explorer." You only have to buy one paper. No matter what day it is, it's always current.

"Somehow I can't see Patch doing 90/90 and working any kind of program. Tick, tick, tick....."
I feel good. Pink cloud?

Stayed in rehab only until the furor died down. Just another Kennedy thumbing his nose at the law and at society.
To: Aussie Dasher
Yeah but does he feel as good as the night he was stopped by the police? He was feeling REAL good that night.
To: Aussie Dasher
Someone mentioned Kennedy?
Here ya go!

And damned lucky to boot!

Now I need a drink after seeing that picture!

Bob Beckel said that a month in rehab was called a "spin cycle" by addiction experts - - he said it was almost always a useless exercise with addicts. Kennedy will be back on the junk in a week.

I predict that this man will commit manslaughter in the future. He doesn't believe or admit that he has a problem, his family won't admit, even though they know he has a problem.
