There is MUCH more information in this story by reporter MICHELLE SHEPHARD by 1AM this morning. It seems she had foreknowledge of this bust and kept her mouth shut.
A TERROR RING THAT PLANNED OKLAHOMA-CITY-STYLE BOMBINGS has reportedly been
smashed in Canada. Interestingly, it seems that Internet monitoring played a key role.
UPDATE:
Brendan Loy has more, plus a complaint about Reuters' coverage, which leaves out a lot of details about the Islamist character of the defendants:

Toronto Sun;
Any guesses at how long it takes the usual suspects to a) downplay the story as much ado about nothing, and/or b) weave it into a conspiracy to turn Canada into Shrubhitler's police state. Update; It's already begun.
A news conference will begin shortly. You can listen live at 650 CKOM.
Stephen Taylor has lots more, including a chilling poem from one of the suspects.

Terror raids in Canada, too
Those arrested are "Muslims, but not Arabs." It's nice to see the mainstream media actually making this elementary distinction, which might begin to dispel the calumny that the anti-jihad resistance is "racism."Comments (45)

The National Post also took a look at the Georgia-Canada connection in Terrorisms new guard, published first on May 4, 2006.

The six-month RCMP investigation, called Project OSage, is one of several overlapping probes that include an FBI case called Operation Northern Exposure and a British probe known as Operation Mazhar. There is preliminary indication that some of the Canadian subjects may have had limited contact with the two people recently arrested from Georgia, Special Agent Richard Kolko, the FBI spokesman, said in an e-mail to the National Post.

Broad Strata?
The politically-correct whitewash of the Canadian terror cell has already begun in earnest. The Globe & Mail reports that the RCMP has decided to emphasize the fact that the suspected terrorists came from a "broad strata" of Canadian society:...The majority sported the traditional Muslim male beard. [emphasis mine -- CE]
EUPHEMISM O' THE DAY: "BROAD STRATA"
Oh, dear Lord. A jihadist plot, possibly of global scale, possibly imminent, unravels in Canada...and what do law enforcement officials do? Try to whitewash the obvious jihadi profile from the public's mind.At the press briefing held by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police today, the suspects who appeared in court--all sporting traditional Muslim male beards and requesting Korans--were described as coming from a "broad strata" of society. (Hat tip: reader Ed)
Broad strata.
Yes, the same "broad strata" from which the 9/11 hijackers, 1993 World Trade Center bombers, USS Cole bombers, etc., etc., etc., came.

ROGER SIMON: "I can't say I'm surprised it took eight paragraphs before the New York Times deigned to tell us what might be behind (have motivated) the arrest of 17 people in Ontario over the last couple of days. In fact it takes them six paragraphs before they even name any names. And of course they hasten first to make sure we know most of these men (not yet identified as Islamists) are "young people," shades of the French linguistic obsession with les jeunes, lest we might think them representative of a hostile ideology. This political bowdlerization is accomplished in paragraph four. Think for a moment how the Times would have constructed an article (has constructed many articles) about the malfeasance of US servicemen. They sure wouldn't bury the lede."

Europe faces a similar situation, and now the question will be whether the US has something brewing in its mosques as well. We have already uncovered the Lodi mosque and the father-son jihadi team there. Canada has similar cultural flexibility as the US; to think that this could metastasize there but not here would be foolish indeed.

UPDATE: As will Kate at Small Dead Animals. Confederate Yankee wonders whether a 'domestic spying" effort helped root these terrorists out.
Contrary to the official explanation, there is a strong indication that the explosive substance TATP (triacetone triperoxide), also known as the Mother of Satan and a homemade and very unstable explosive was used in this blast. This is the same substance used by "the despondent" Joel Henry Hinnrichs outside of the Oklahoma University stadium on October 1, 2005 - a blast that was ruled as a "suicide" and unrelated to terrorism.

Details Emerge About Suspects in Canada Bomb Plot
How is it that a man who held obviously "extreme" sentiments could have gotten a place on a mosque Board? Is it possible that the majority in the mosque were and are "extremists" also? Why do authorities never consider this, but constantly pretend the contrary in the teeth of whatever evidence? A slightly better article than the one noted below from the New York Times:...It doesn't matter if he was an imam or a "freelancer." He was on the Board, which gave him a certain weight in the community. His views were, in other words, not held up as heretical and rejected by the mosque leaders. He was one of those leaders. "The Egyptian Muslim and a friend were caught making a video at Torontos most busy Subway Station ( Yonge+Bloor transfer point from all routes) and not only did he film several Enterances to other Station the CN Tower and office buildings were included, the internal filming from the Station platform was done with the camera hidden in a tote bags with a peephole while Muhammad coached the friend on where to stand as trains came in."
"So we see once again the familar pattern emerge: First: the pointy end of the Islamic insurrection lashes out with violence or threats of violence... Then: this is followed by a well orchestrated attempt by the Islamic community to depict themselves as the "true victims" of Muslim transgression. "

The DBM ( Drive-By Media ) ignores the real story and gets things back on the proper "Muslims are victims" angle. The liberal paradigm can not account for what's happening in the world today, so events are recast into the cookie cutter mold of victims and oppressors; Capitalist exploiters and third world exploited. What the LLL's( Lying Liberal Leftists, or lll3 ) with all their "anti-imperialist" rhetoric don't realize, is that Islam is the ultimate and most pernicious imperialist power, demanding total global totalitarian rule. Islam is "a portable theocratic state."

Writermom, I was in Montreal last weekend. We stopped at a major playpark for kids. Great equipment, the most expensive artistic stuff made in Berlin and the USA. 90 percent of the parents there were speaking arabic, 5% spanish, and the rest french. The women were almost all burka clad, the men in undershirt type things. They all seemed pleasant enough but I realized these people probably sat at home watching television and praised allah everytime a bus was blown up in Israel. Major creepiness, if you know what I mean. It was like another planet. |

Case against the Sydney accused
The alleged plot to launch a terrorist strike on Sydney has been revealed. It involved young men who wanted to die for jihad; outback training camps; a huge stockpile of ammunition, guns, chemicals and detonators; and only one named possible target - the Lucas Heights nuclear reactor.
The suspected target: Lucas Heights nuclear reactor
Jihad camps held in bush, police say
Sects, knives and videotapes
Hotline caller fears for his life
Starring role in a real-life drama
Accused linked to imam: police
What police found at addresses of Sydney suspects
When police raided the Bankstown home of 26-year-old Mazen Touma, they found an extraordinary armoury. In a sworn statement, police say they seized box after box of ammunition: shotgun and Bushman shells to .40 calibre Winchester rounds, Rimfire ammunition, rifle magazines and pistol cartridge packs. They also said they found 165 railway detonators, designed to sit on tracks and explode when a train runs over them.
Before last Tuesday's raids, Touma was virtually unknown to the public. But NSW and federal police had been tracking his movements closely for nearly a year. On March 24, the Lebanese Australian was secretly recorded talking to his friend, Omar Baladjam, about training and getting fit. In the detailed statement given to Sydney's Central Local Court and released yesterday, police say they heard the two saying they would have to be healthy "to shoot some motherf---ers". That was the order from Allah, to be healthy, because "it is in preparation for everything".
Just what this conversation and many others meant will be argued out in the biggest terrorism case Australia has faced. Eighteen men were arrested in Sydney and Melbourne last week, including Touma and his friend Baladjam, who was shot in the neck during the operation.
Police allege the eight Sydney suspects had ordered and bought explosives, underwent terrorist training on two sprawling country stations outside Bourke, and had scoped out potential targets, including possibly the nuclear reactor at Lucas Heights.
Police also recorded another of the eight, Khaled Sharrouf, 24, telling the radical cleric Abdul Nacer Benbrika: "I want to die." Benbrika, who was one of the men arrested in Melbourne, allegedly replied: "If we want to die for jihad, we have to have maximum damage. Maximum damage. Damage their buildings, everything. Damage their lives. To show them
we'll have to be careful."
Whether any of the men was prepared to die for jihad is yet to be determined. Police seized several videos from Touma's home, including one entitled Are You Ready to Die, by a New York cleric, Siraj Wahhaj. But the complete title of the video, available over the internet, includes the words Preparing for Your Eventual Death by Being the Best Human Being You Can Possibly Be and does not appear to be exhorting suicide bombing.
But the police statement sets out a pattern of chemical ordering and buying, weapons stockpiling, meetings, hunting trips and telephone calls, climaxing in late October, when, police allege, there was a conspiracy to make explosives, specifically triacetone triperoxide, the material used in the London bombings.
Touma came under police notice when he was stopped "in the vicinity" of the nuclear reactor at Lucas Heights almost a year ago in the company of Mohamed Elomar and Abdul Rhakib Hasan. Both Elomar and Hasan had been under ASIO watch for some time, Hasan because of his links to the French terrorist suspect Willy Brigitte.
The three men had a trail bike in Touma's car and said they were going to ride it. Police allege "all three persons gave different versions of the day's events" and inquiries revealed that an access lock for a gate at the reservoir "in the vicinity" of the reactor had recently been cut.
Police allege Touma, Elomar and Hasan went on a hunting trip in March this year to the Mulga Creek Station, near Bourke, with several others who were also under ASIO surveillance. These included Khaled Cheikho and his nephew Moustafa, both of whom had trained in terrorist camps in Pakistan and who were arrested in Sydney last week.
Police allege Hasan and Khaled Cheikho made a similar trip a month earlier to another station near Bourke, Curranyalpa. In both cases the properties were booked under false names and police claim the trips were actually "part of the jihad training".
At the same time Hasan was allegedly in regular contact with Benbrika, and in July this year Benbrika gave a sermon in the Sydney home of one of the group. Touma was also present and their conversation was again secretly recorded.
Benbrika allegedly said: "Some people claim to love jihad but don't respect their own parents
you need permission from your parents to go to jihad. If your mother says no to jihad, then no jihad."
Two days later, according to the police, Touma "requested permission from his mother to undertake jihad".
Around this time, ASIO raided Elomar's home in Gallipoli Street, Bankstown, where they seized a computer memory stick, which allegedly contained instructions in Arabic for manufacturing triacetone triperoxide using commonly available chemicals.
In the aftermath of the London bombings, Victorian police began investigating the purchase of chemical equipment by one of Benbrika's followers, but in NSW it was not until late September that police claims of suspicious chemical orders begin.
On September 29, two unnamed members of the Sydney group allegedly placed an order with a commercial chemical supplier for large quantities of methylated spirits, hydrochloric acid, citric acid and glycerine using the name 'George". They said they represented a cleaning company.
Last month Baladjam allegedly asked a battery retailer about sulfuric acid while posing as a market researcher and began organising the delivery of the acid. Soon after, police say, he bought a backpack and 900 rounds of ammunition and made inquiries at a local shooting range.
The same month Hasan allegedly collected 16 litres of acetone from a hardware store. He also tried to pick up another 60 litres of acetone from a Padstow Station hardware store. The vehicle he used was later found burnt out but still containing 90 litres of water, hydrogen peroxide and some gardening equipment.
Last month Sharrouf went to a store in Chullora with several members of the group, and allegedly tried to steal six digital timers and a large number of batteries. He was caught and charged with attempted theft.
On November 4, just days after police agreed to arrest the suspects, Baladjam and another suspect, Mirsad Mulahalilovic, allegedly went into the Trade Link hardware store in Lakemba and bought nine caps to put on the end of PVC piping. Outside Mulahalilovic's home, they unloaded four PVC pipes from his car and loaded it into Baladjam's.
Despite the impressive list of chemicals and equipment, police note: "While the information received to date may indicate that the suspects attempted to source materials for the production of TATP, all of the chemicals sourced have other legitimate uses. Acetone, [sulfuric] acid and hydrogen peroxide [can] be used in significant volume by industry and have other common uses.
"The quantities sourced by the targets do not exceed standard industry use but are larger than the quantity normally required for common uses."
But the police case also rests on alleged secret meetings between the Sydney men, often arranged in the early hours using text messages on mobile phones bought in false names. Before these meetings, "members would engage in anti-surveillance" and when surveillance was discovered often the meetings were cancelled.
Last Friday, the only suspect to appear in court, Mulahalilovic, was refused bail despite arguments by his lawyers that the case against him was flimsy. The bail hearings for the seven other accused resume on December 5, when the defence may respond to some of the police claims.

Islam in Todays South Africa
In South Africa, there are approximately 455 mosques, 408 educational institutes, colleges, Muslim private schools, religious instruction centres, and colleges of Islamic Sciences. There are universities that offer Arabic and Islamic Studies as part of their academic curriculum. The number of organisations involved in general welfare activities, e.g., social, cultural, business, religious, media, youth and gender are around 465. Some of the important private Islamic radio stations are: Al-Zaheer Radio Station, Fordsburg; Azaania Broadcasting, Durban; Institute for Islamic Services; Radio Pretoria; Islamic Broadcasting Services International, Mayfair; Radio 786, Cape Town; The Voice Radio Station, Mayfair and The Voice of the Cape Town.
There are branches in almost all the major towns and cities in South Africa of the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa. This organization publishes its own journal from Durban. Muslims as groups or as individuals publish a host of magazines, journals and periodicals mostly in the English language. Prominent among them are: The Muslim Digest, Al-Akhbar (Cape Town), Al-Rasheed (Frodsburg), Muslim Views (Cape Town), Palastine Times (Fordsbug), The Majlis (Port Elzabeth), The Message (Johannesburg) and Al-Balaagh (Johannesburg).
There are Islamic societies and associations formed by students at most of the important secondary and tertiary educational institutions. Muslim women are not far behind their male counterparts; they have formed their own associations and are rendering valuable services to the community with a true Islamic spirit. Noteworthy among them are: Islamic co-ordinating Council -- Ladies Council, Cape Town; Islamic Da`wah Movement, Womens Wing, Durban; Islamic Womens Association, Durban; Jama`at-un-Nissa, Kimberley; Muslim Womens Federation, Cape Town; Senior Citizens Comfort Group and Womens Cultural Group, Durban.
The Muslim youth are not far behind in this either; some of their important associations and societies are: Fordsburg Muslim Youth Organisation, Johannesburg; Laudium Islamic Youth Awareness Movement, Pretoria; Muslim Youth Unity, Cape Town; Nur-ul-Islam Yield Youth Association, Cape Town; the Kauther Youth Circle, Johannesburg and Saut-us-Shabaab, Cape Town. I honestly don't think this administration is whitewashing anything. I suspect that municipal officials may have softsoaped the Tim Horton's situation a bit.
Also, in defense of the politicians, it takes a while to equip people for as distasteful a task as solving the "Muslim problem" will be. The WW II holocaust is recent in everyone's memory. The horrible thing here is that unlike the Jews of Europe, these Muslims really do aim at our destruction (in full disclosure I'm Jewish) and they're implacable. The resolution of this will be indescribably horrible. I do suspect that we're not going to let ourselves go down the drain.

Author helped expose Canada terrorists --
Several months ago, according to KGRV TV, two IEDs and components for 33 more were discovered in Laredo. It wont be long before we face here in America, what our brave soldiers face every day in Iraq. And IEDs may be the least worrisome. If its a simple matter to smuggle 3,000 pounds of drugs across the border, as the sheriff mentioned, how much easier is it to carry across a suitcase bomb - a dirty nuke?
Well, they're all carbon-based life forms...
More willful ignorance and denial from the media: "The ties that bind 17 suspects?," from the Toronto Star, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:
In investigators' offices, an intricate graph plotting the links between the 17 men and teens charged with being members of a homegrown terrorist cell covers at least one wall. And still, says a source, it is difficult to find a common denominator.
Let's see. All Muslims. All devout members of a religion that contains traditions teaching violence against unbelievers. Of course, that couldn't be relevant. Comments (38)
Toronto Star: Hard to Find a Common Denominator
LGF reader WriterMom emailed a scan of page A3 of Sundays Toronto Star, featuring a classic case of willful blindness:
Muslim Women? "Little Penguins in Bondage..."
"Just try walking into an American courtroom with your hat on. Bailiffs exist to tell people in no uncertain terms to "take your hat off!" To think they allow these "women" to go into a courtroom in their ghost outfits just blows my mind. "

"Why is it the DBM ( Drive-By Media... ) is so quick to judge America and its military, but will not call a Muslim a Muslim?

The Buffalo News reported today that there were links to possible training camps in Fort Erie Ontario. Fort Erie is directly across the Niagara River from Downtown Buffalo, and I can see it from my window at work every day. And Lackawanna abuts Buffalo on its southern border which is also within easy distance of Fort Erie. So we have been surrounded by sleeper cells & training camps on my immediate south and west. I'm not feeling all that confortable while listening to these politicos spew their garbage about how there's no links. This stuff IS in my backyard. |
Heres a no-punches-pulled commentary at the Globe and Mail by Christie Blatchford: Ignoring the biggest elephant in the room. (Hat tip: LGF readers.)

The worst part about Kahane...(& something I say alot is) that HE WAS RIGHT...He was saying the same things we are today, but 20+ years ago.
"What's it going to take for our politicans to wake up? 3000 dead did'nt do it. 30,000? 300,000? A nuke and 3 million? I really want to know."

Andrew McCarthy on the media template;
Nonetheless, the rigorous media practice in Phase One is to suppress any reference to Islam, the single thread that runs through virtually all modern terrorismfrom New York, to Virginia, to Bali, the Djerba, to Baghdad, to Mombassa, to Tel Aviv, to Nairobi, to Dar es Salaam, to Ankara, to Paris, to Riyadh, to Amman, to Sharm el-Sheikh, to Aden, to London, to Madrid, and, now, to Toronto.
Christie Blatchford strikes a similar note: "I drove back from yesterday's news conference at the Islamic Foundation of Toronto in the northeastern part of the city, but honestly, I could have just as easily floated home in the sea of horse manure emanating from the building.""Imagine a 1938 story about Kristallnacht that spoke of 'German youths' representing 'broad strata' of society, and never once mentioning Hitler or National Socialism."

While I appreciate that they have their hands full pursuing the Self-Fulfilling Prophesy Project in Iraq, one would think that our khaki-clad friends covering the international "militancy" beat might have mentioned it in passing.
Flash forward - May 31, 2006;
To date, more than 1,200 people have been killed since January 2004a date that the media cites as the start of the insurgency (in reality it began in early 2001)and several thousand more have been wounded. There have been three beheadings this year, bringing the total to 24.

http://www.captainsquartersblog.com/mt/archives/007137.phpHearings Today For The Canadian Suspects
Seventeen suspects arrested this weekend as part of the terrorist roundup in Toronto will have their first court hearing today, where Canada will formally charge them with conspiring to detonate at least one bomb...More details have come out in the last twenty-four hours. Earlier reports had described the purchase of the ammonium nitrate as a sting operation, but now it appears that the sting was not planned. According to the Toronto Star, investigators found out about their intended purchase and intervened quickly, replacing the ammonium nitrate with a similar but innocuous material. That appears to show that the Canadians did nothing to entrap the terror cell, and may have been caught by surprise when they made this explicit move to arm themselves...Also, investigators also revealed that nine of the seventeen suspects attended the training camp last summer, where the terrorists shot video of their activities. Some of the activity mimicked jihadist battles in familiar territories: Afghanistan, Chechnya, Bosnia....Two of the suspects are already in prison for running guns across the US border.

Melanie Phillips, truth teller, gives us a geography lesson from Londonistan to Canadastan here --If the details emerging are true, it would seem that this haul of suspects has a significance extending far beyond Canada. They appear to have been part of an international conspiracy, demonstrating once again the global aspect of the jihad... The Australian reports: links between those detained in Canada and terrorist cells in at least six other countries. It has been established that two men from the US state of Georgia...the Georgia men travelled to Washington to shoot casing videos of the Capitol and other potential targets...The October arrest of a London man...Younis Tsouli--Scotland Yard found a PowerPoint-like presentation on a computer showing how to make a car bomb, various bomb-making manuals and a digital video clip of Washington monuments... the digital movie, believed to be a surveillance video, was taken by one of two suspected Atlanta terrorists... Mr. Tsouli seemed to be particularly active in radicalizing non-Arab terrorists...He was, it seems, radicalising people in Britain. Unnamed UK security sources tell us that some 1200 terrorists 1200! are biding their time within the British suburbs. Any connection?
Now America faces the chilling realisation that while it has been convulsed for weeks over illegal immigration across its border with Mexico, a far greater threat is posed by its unpatrolled border with Canada twice the length of the border with Mexico which has one of the most liberal asylum and immigration policies in the world.
Blog of the Week TigerHawk makes a long and pretty persuasive argument that the unmasking of would-be terrorists in Toronto is just another reminder that the threat of terrorist infiltration from the north is likely greater than from the south
