WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Some members of a group of Canadians arrested on terror-related offenses may have been in contact with two U.S. suspects now in custody who were based in Georgia, the FBI said on Saturday.
"There is preliminary indication that some of the Canadian subjects may have had limited contact with the two people recently arrested from Georgia," said FBI spokesman Richard Kolko in an e-mail.
Syed Haris Ahmed, 21, of Atlanta, Georgia, was arrested March 23 after a grand jury returned an indictment charging him with material support of terrorism. He has pleaded innocent and has not yet come to trial.
Ehsanul Islam Sadequee, 19, left Georgia after Ahmed's indictment but was later taken into custody in Bangladesh and returned to the United States, where he was charged in New York's federal court with lying to federal officials in an ongoing terrorism investigation.
Sadequee and Ahmed traveled to Canada on March 13, 2005, to meet with Islamic extremists, according to a U.S. Justice Department statement.
The two "stayed with an individual with whom they were conspiring concerning travel to terrorist camps, and met with three subjects of an FBI international terrorism investigation and discussed strategic locations in the United States suitable for a possible terrorist strike," the statement said, citing the complaint against Sadequee.
U.S. Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke said on Saturday there were no plans to change the U.S. security posture following Saturday's arrests in Canada.
Something very big was in the works. Both in Canada and in the US. Hopefully the whole house of cards will fall once we start the interrogations.
This fella doesn't agre something big is in the works: "U.S. Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke said on Saturday there were no plans to change the U.S. security posture following Saturday's arrests in Canada." I agree with you however, there are too many seemingly unrelated incidents occurring that point to some sort of planning by a central figure(s).

There is MUCH more information in this story by reporter MICHELLE SHEPHARD by 1AM this morning. It seems she had foreknowledge of this bust and kept her mouth shut. Kudos to her.
That seemed like a bit of a surprising note to me, too.
We'll see.
This really has the feel of massive coordination, though.
The story I linked above from TheStar really indicts anybody who is unwilling to give security the ability to discover these plots. Much of this was done by data mining it seems - probably more than has been specifically released.
We're really going to have to crack down in every way on these plotters - whether they're using phones, internet, mosques, private "camps", libraries, or any other means to disseminate information and to coordinate. By that, I don't mean simply laws, but everyone from private citizens thru politicians thru judges must bend over backwards to give law enforcement the latitude they need in order to eliminate these increasingly sophisticated attacks on civilization.
Yeah, I know. I was thinking the same thing when I looked at that list of names a couple hours ago.
I think it was when I saw "Steven" in #10 that the name thing just suddenly jumped out at me. Some kind of commonality amongst the names of the arrested... Possibly my imagination (and yours)... of course some would say we're prone to discrimination to even notice.

Yup: it's the Irish and the Swedes yet again...

FBI Connects Georgia Arrests to Canadian Plot

Over the last month, investigators have traced Ahmeds path from an Atlanta mosque to Toronto to Washington, D.C. to Pakistan.
According to a March 23 affidavit unsealed April 21, Ahmed met Sadequee at Al-Farooq Masjid mosque in Atlanta. Then, the two suspects traveled to Toronto in March 2005 to discuss potential terrorist targets with like-minded Islamic extremists. Lastly, Ahmed attempted to receive terrorism training during a trip to Pakistan last year.
Ahmeds March 23 arrest was not made public until April 20 and he is being held at an undisclosed location by the U.S. Marshal Service while he awaits trial. He pleaded not guilty on April 19, and no trial date has been set.
Canadas National Post also took a look at the Georgia-Canada connection in Terrorisms new guard, published first on May 4, 2006.
Unlike the old guard of terrorists, who were immigrants and refugees who brought to Canada the conflicts of their homelands, the new generation consists largely of Canadian-born radical Muslims of various ethnicities, as well as converts who have adopted the extremist interpretation of Islam.
The documents also support recent claims by U.S. counterterrorism officials that extremists are operating inside Canadas borders. The presence of Islamic terrorists in Canada was noted two weeks ago, when the U.S. Department of Justice announced the arrests of two Georgia youths.
Ehsanul Islam Sadequee, 19, and Syed Haris Ahmed, 21, are accused of traveling [sic] to Canada last March for terrorism-related planning and co-ordination with local radicals.
The FBI says while in Toronto they discussed terrorist training and plots to bomb U.S. military facilities and oil refineries.
LOL! Well, Inuit Tribal names, they are not!
Maybe we should stop giving out green cards to 100,000 foreign Muslims every year.
My father was Swedish
My mother was Irish
I am from Canada.(the legal way)
I work at a US Port of entry.......
i guess I will not use my phone for awhile.
Nearly 24 hours have passed, and the Canadians still refuse to release the ethnicities or national origin of the "canadian residents" who attempted to commit terrorist acts. Is there some "Terrorist Shield Law" in Canada?
Incidentally, what religion were these 19 suspects? Baptist, Methodist, Nazarene, Mennonite? They wouldn't fit any particular profile woould they?

Once you comb through the various news stories, it becomes clear, as any reasonable person would suspect, that all these perps where Mohammedans. Their names are as follows:
Yasin Mohamed, 24, of Toronto
Ali Dirie, 22, whose last address was in Markham
Mohammad Momin Khawaja, an Ottawa-area software operator
Fahim Ahmad, a 22-year-old Scarborough father
Ahmad Ghany, Mississauga
Zakaria Amara, Mississauga
Qayyum Abdul Jamal, 43, of Mississauga,
And here is a more complete list:

Is that all...I would have thought it was higher. Anyways I would be fine with halting all of them except covert contacts giving important information, then only letting them in after they have been educated and reformed out of the cult.
Yes, they have not stopped or rested. However, 9/11 has never been repeated--thanks to President George W. Bush and his excellent leadership.
