With just five months to go before the midterm elections, President Bush, whose once-faithful base has abandoned him in droves, is turning to the same conservative hot-button issues that won him re-election in 2004 -- homosexual "marriage" and judicial nominees. The president, now fully aware that his plummeting approval ratings could cost the Republicans control of one or both congressional chambers in November, will use his radio address today and a speech Monday to push a constitutional amendment banning same-sex "marriage," just as the Senate prepares to vote on the issue. The crux of his argument is simple: A majority of Americans support the idea that marriage is exclusively between a man and a woman, and activist judges across the country are thwarting the will of the people.

They are two separate issues - The currently terribly flawed guest worker / temporary worker visa programs....and the problem of what to do with the current 12 million illegals that are currently here (who have come here by one means or another over the past 20 years).
Furthermore show me anywhere where GWB said he was against allowing those currently here illegally a path to citizenship prior to 2004??
We have three issues that need to be dealt with...with regard to the 40 (20) year in the making current immigration problems.
1. Border security
2. The terribly flawed current guest worker programs (which a portion of those currently here illegally stem from. They came here legally...but simply never left once their visa's expired)
3. What to do with those currently here illegally - those 12 million who have come here over the last 20 years -
As for trying to fool anyone (or you) there is no need - You are clearly already confused enough -
GWB is saying we need a new (reformed) temporary worker program to deal with those future immigrants / guest workers....Thus addressing the currently terribly flawed system we have (from which a sizable portion of those current illegal 12 million have come from in the last 20 years).
That is separate from what we do with regard to those who are currently here and have been living here for some time - GWB is not suggesting amnesty for them. He is saying to those that are already here...and want to become supporting citizens of this great nation....They will have to go through a process. A process in which there will be penalties, requirements, background checks, etc (not blanket amnesty that was signed by R. Reagan in 85/86).
Of those current 12 million who would choose to become supporting / productive citizens and decide to go down this path...they will likely be part of the new temporary guest worker program while in the process of becoming U.S. citizens (which only commonsense would dictate).
So...GWB wants a comprehensive process with dealing with the current 40 (20) year in the making problem.
1. Address border security.
2. Address the current flawed guest worker programs
3. Find a workable solution on what to do with the current 12 million illegals currently here - Making a portion of them eligible for citizenship if they meet xy & z requirements (not amnesty).
Lastly the House / Senate will likely put some further requirements on board, along with ending birth right citizenship, etc, etc -
If you don't agree with this so be it - But don't whine and spin that GWB has changed his position. He has not (just as Rush Limbaugh says weekly...even though he doesn't agree with GWB fully on this issue).
Can you link to a site showing the term "path to citizenship" being uttered by G.W. Bush during any campaign?
That will shut up the naysayers fer sure!
