3 pints of Guinness later and Big Chris was feeling just about right. Southern Comfort took care of my mom and we were back at the St. Regis hotel by about 10pm.

Chris, I wouldn't be able to flop for a week after that evening, Guiness and/or Southern Comfort notwithstanding!

How does somebody get invited to something like that?

Well in the case of this particular White House gathering, the price of admission was tragically high -- it was for the family members of those heroes who died on United flight 93 on 9/11... Chris_in_nj's father, Patrick "Joe" Driscoll, was on that flight when it crashed after the passengers stormed the highjackers to prevent them from using the jet as a weapon against targets on the ground, as the other three hijacked flights had done.
