Wash. GOP issues resolution on immigration

The Washington state Republican Party has adopted a resolution calling for an end to the Constitution's guarantee of automatic citizenship to the U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants.

Delegates supporting that platform said their concerns included the cost to public hospitals and the expense of welfare for the children of indigent or deported illegal immigrants.

"I think voters realize immigration is a problem and we are trying to grapple with solutions to the illegal-immigration problem," Diane Tubeless, state GOP chairwoman, said of the resolution adopted Saturday with little debate and few dissenting votes.

The 14th Amendment says: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."

State Democratic Party Chairman Dwight Pelz called the GOP resolution "a punitive and inhumane response to the immigration issue America is confronting" and said it would prove to be an "embarrassment" to Republican candidates.

Interesting. So it would not even take another amendment to address this issue; just a different (and IMHO correct) interpretation of the 14th Amednment as it is currently written. With the current Supreme Court makeup, that is quite a tossup. One more Bush appointee thoguh would do wonders.

If there is another opening, this is an avenue that should be highlighted...getting an justice on board who would rule this way.

Hallelujah! There is hope for Washington after all. It will be interesting to see what sort of objections the Dems and many socialists in that state raise that are not just emotional manipulation. I don't think they can give any valid arguments to the contrary without seeming like they are tools for the Mexican government. JMO of course.

But of course, the blue part of the state is easily brain washed on liberal issues--why?--I've never quite put my finger on that. Let's hope that is not true on this issue and they can actually pass it. That would be a very beautiful day!

Don't jump to any conclusions. Republican leaders fought us delegates all the way. This amendment was made and passed by the average joe delegates, not the establishment Republicans. Republican leaders like Rob McKenna are already dismissing the platform. None of them have announced any plans to change the status quo.

I would add, that most of the Establishment Republicans left the convention after this and the statement requiring illegal aliens to go to their native land to apply for a guest worker program before coming back in. They all waited in the lobby and kept trying to call for a lack of quorum before we did any more "damage" to THEIR platform.

Good news, especially in light of the c r a * that the "mainstreamers" (retch) were trying to pull during the convention. HOWEVER, none of our platforms make the slightest bit of difference to our electeds. Bet they haven't even read them...
