Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) gave the following speech today on the House floor during debate on legislation to open up Alaskas Artic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to drilling:
In the book of Genesis, Esau, hungry believing he was about to die, sold his birthright to Jacob for a pot of red stew.
The Alaska National Wildlife Refuge is the birthright of the Gwitchen tribe as well as a national treasure of natural beauty. Are we, like Esau, about to sell our birthright to the corporations for a mess of oily pottage?
Are we ready to despoil our natural heritage in search of liquid fools gold?
It is time for new thinking. Instead of the oil companies taking over ANWR for drilling, we ought to be talking about taking over the oil companies. They have gouged the American people. They control our politics. They have ignored the growing global environmental crisis. The lust for oil has put us on a path to war.
It is time for new thinking. We should be talking about a windfall profits tax, breaking up the oil monopolies, or even taking over the oil companies, not sacrificing ANWR.
Esau thought his birthright didnt mean much. Will we, like Esau, come to regret that we have never claimed our right to control over our own natural resources, our own environment, our own nation?
Way to go Dennis! Don't let that old 5th Amendment, or 10th Amendment get in the way of your communist revolution. By the way, which oil companies do you want to seize? British Petroleum perhaps? How about Citgo, Exxon, or Unocal? None of these are based in the US and their governemnts would be most unhappy with their seizure. Sorry, Dennis the days of Standard Oil, and Pacific Oil are long over. The next time you call for the proletariat uprising, maybe you ought to learn a little about what the heck you're spouting off about. Nah, way too much to ask.
Rerun Democrats
Maybe Dennis should talk to the Gwitchen tribe he 'cares' so much about. They want drilling!
ANWR Passes House For the TENTH Time!
ANWR passed the House of Representatives today as a standalone measure in HR 5429 for the tenth time, showing the majority support for exploration in the 10-02 Area by the peoples representatives. The vote at 3:30pm today was broken down as follows: 225 Yea, and 201 Nay with 7 representatives not voting. The yeas comprised of 198 Republicans and 27 Democrats and the nays comprised of 30 Republicans, 170 Democrats, and 1 Independent. The vote cements the Congresses continual support for the passage of ANWR legislation.
There's More... "ANWR Passes House For the TENTH Time!"

If he does remember that quote. That alone should be enough to wreck whatever cedibility he might build up. Except with regular dems though. They would love to "nationalize" everything.
Why? Is the G'witchen Tribe going to pretend to be us to be us to receive a blessing from our blind father?
Is he worried that maybe this time it has a chance of passing the Senate?
What I can't believe is that the idiot put it on his web site. This wasn't slip of the tongue he's sorry for - he is proud of this.
Ah, Geez, not this @#$% again!
What!? The government already owns the oil companies! What with all the controls and restrictions and taxes on them. Also the animals love the pipeline. GOTO: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1639966/posts
I stopped right there ... Esau means red .. thus Esau was a red head ... the stew was not red.
The only red stew Kucinich sees is the one left over from the cold war .... and he misses the exotic flavor of Soviet salsa.
I wonder if Scrappleface could parody a nutball like Kucinich? It would be tricky.
Doubtful.
It's an election year so he'll posture about ANWR and claim his efforts helped prevent it from occuring. The SOROS Republicans in the Senate, lke Coleman and McCain, won't let it pass. he knows that.
Speaking to his knowledge on the Bible however, I'd say it's nonexistent.
Our consumer-based economy is driven by and dependent upon readily-available, reliable energy-- choke that off, and we'll all be back to using one rotary dial phone in the dining room, watching one TV in the living room, and driving one car per family-- probably a Hudson Hornet or a Nash Metropolitan...
We need to
1) end the nonsensical ban on offshore drilling off California and Florida--read & weep:
Castro Plans to Drill 45 Miles from US Shores, But We Can't
2) build a lot of next-generation nuclear power plants, not just for electricity, but for any process requiring heat, power, or steam.
And if we replaced our existing nuclear plants with this one there would be significant benefits.
3) end Jimmy Carter's idiotic ban on recycling nuclear waste, and reprocess the stuff rather than fighting over where to bury it. Europe has done this for decades.-- what to do with spent nuclear fuel? Answer here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1468321/posts?page=50#50 hattip: Mike (former Navy Nuclear Engineer)
4) use the 300-500 years worth of coal we have on our own land, using the new clean-coal technology.
-Clean Coal Centre--
5) and finally, there's nothing wrong with conservation, we should all practice it- but you can't conserve your way out of a shortage. Nor is there anything wrong with "alternative" energy sources- except they don't supply the vast ( not to mention readily-available ) amounts of power we need at a price competitive to more conventional sources. Then again, there is this to ponder:
Energy From the Gulf Stream

We do need to get serious about this before we get strangled by a bunch of petty thieves and dictators who don't like us much.

Sticker Shock-$3 a gallon gas? Click the picture:
And kindly note, and note well-- the first reply to this post ( when gas was $1.45 a gallon ) was derisive... so, who's laughing now?
Vest-Pocket Summary:
1- drill for gas & oil like crazy- onshore, offshore, and in Alaska
2- go nuclear for power
3- convert stationary plants to clean coal technology or Next-Gen Nuclear
4- slash taxes and regulations like crazy
Kucinich has the intellect of a third grader.
How and why do these stupids keep reelecting bozos like this mentally handicapped moron?
Well, he is a Socialist after all. He is just staying true to Castro and Chavez.
That is why Congressman Kucinich has co-authored legislation, with Congressman John Conyers, HR 676, Medicare for All, to provide full health care coverage for every American. It would expand Medicares benefits and grant Medicares coverage to everyone in our country. This legislation would cover all medically necessary procedures, with no premiums, no co-payments and no deductibles. (also on his web page)
