If no bill comes out, it will still be an issue in many Congressional campaigns. Those who voted against the House bill, Reps and Dems, will have to defend their decisions. Likewise, so will the Senators who are running for reelection. And challengers will be asked for their position. It is already a national issue. The illegals' demonstrating in the streets of many of our major cities has changed the dynamic. IMO, the Senate wants a bill far more than the House, hence they will be more willing to compromise.
Except 2 of those 3 (Byrd and Nelson) aren't even remotely vulnerable to losing their re-election. And Dorgan is from North Dakota, which is very conservative state despite electing a Democrat for the Senate (kind of like Maine electing a Republican Senator). And 3 Republicans who voted for it are also up for re-election including Dewine of OH who is very vulnerable.
Ben Nelson isn't necessarily a sure thing. Stabenow realizes that in a state like Michigan with high unemployment, support of guest worker programs is a liability. Dorgan always tries to appear more conservative around election time. He also has some Abramoff connections.
DeWine may well regret his vote. I would also note that more Reps who are up for election voted against the bill.
The bill passed with a 55% majority and 82% percent of Democrats voted against it.
Getting almost 20% of the Democrats to vote for it with the felony language in it is significant. Also please note that 17 Reps voted against it, including Hayworth and the Cuban-American Reps from FL, presumably because of that language. The Senate bill won't fly in the House.
Ok...that is it.. I will have to turn that off..Murtha just gets front page honors...disgusting man.
I guessed right LOL
Ping for later review.
Bush Lied!... President Bush has not lied. Not once, and its driving Democrats nuts since they DO lie and lying is a standard within their party. They have a hard time explaining that everyone does it is in itself a Democrat party lie and an excuse for their own bad behavior...
I really like this post, but I didn't see how it was part of the talk show thread. I was going to suggest that it should have it's own thread (and I still think it deserves a thread of its own), then Morgan posted this in #12:
I got tired of the complaints from people who claim they don't believe the MSM for news then turn around and use it to evaluate everything Bush is doing or has done.
and it made sense. Again, I think your post deserves it's own thread, but I second RodGuy's endorsement of #5 as a great post that adds a lot to the talk show discussion.
Will CBS undergo a major change with the new anchor?
Will Face the Nation will become Face Katie?
Inquiring minds want to know.
That's so ridiculous and just one more reason why ESPN should stick with commenting about sports and drop the court case commentary.
No, even letters to the editor fall under the same restrictions as articles. Thanks.
Sounds plausible. I would be sure that it was motivated by previous abuses they wanted to avoid. I'll go Google.
Pantano went thru this, came out on the good end, and quit.
There will be problems no matter what path we take. My only point is I'd rather have someone here who wants to be an American than someone who just wants to make the money and take it home with them. Selfserving? Probably, but it's also been the history of this country and has worked better in the long run.
I don't blame him for quitting, that's for sure. We have politicians like Murtha and Kerry who are seem to WANT to believe the worst about our military; it worked during Vietnam and I see the malignant narcissists are going to try it again.
Wow! All great stuff, and most of it means that the New Media is making a huge difference and we are not yet out of our infancy. Wait until the MSM/DNC has to deal with our Toddler Stage and the terrible two's. I cannot watch Kimberly Guilfoyle since a freeper thread a few weeks back told of how she talked to a group of Gay men about how she was able to keep her husband (at the time) Gavin Newsome, the SF mayor. Poor Bill Hemmer....
I 'll add one more - Why Diane Sawyer met Roger Ailes?
Good Morning, Morgan! I wish I could have seen how Russert was treated on "Late Edition". He was probaly treated like a superhero..
I just spent a tidy sum on a new knife for my son...
thanks to Murtha.
John Warner sure isn't helping this whole thing...
