NOVI SAD -- Bojan Pajtiæ said that the new Serbian constitution must guarantee autonomy for Vojvodina.
Pajtiæ, President of the Vojvodina Executive Council, said that the region must receive clear guarantees for a functional autonomy within the charter of the next Serbian constitution.
Vojvodina must have guarantees for a legislative government, as well as the right to its own budget and properties. Pajtiæ said at a two-day conference regarding regionalism and the models for Vojvodinas autonomy, held by the Vojvodina Parliament.
Serbia cannot adopt a European constitution if it continues to ignore the demands of the Vojvodina citizens. We are asking for a decentralisation of Serbia, autonomy for Vojvodina and a stronger local self-administration. Pajtiæ said.
Vojvodina Parliamentary Speaker Bojan Kostre said that with the Montenegrin referendum now out of the way, it is time for Serbia to focus on its own problems.
I honestly hope that we will be a part of a united country once again with Montenegro very soon, within the European Union. Kostre said.
Leader of the Social-Democratic League of Vojvodina, Nenad Čanak, said that the success of the Montenegro independence referendum is proof that no one wants to live in a union with Serbia.
Serbia no longer has any excuses. It is obvious that no one wants to live with this kind of Serbia in a union, and it is time for the people in Serbia to ask themselves why this is so. Čanak said.
He said that the victory of the option for Montenegrin independence represents a big day in Serbia as well, which on this day, has regained independence undeservingly.
Čanak said that Montenegro will have a much better chance for European integration and that the referendum was exceptionally well organised.
Leader of the Association of Vojvodina Hungarians, Joef Kasa, said that he was rooting for Montenegro independence.
I expected this result. I would like to congratulate those who wanted to restore the independence of Montenegro. Montenegro has a long tradition of independence and I am sure that they will move faster and more effectively towards Europe. Unfortunately, they have left us to lay in the bed we have made for ourselves. Kasa said.
I was rooting for Montenegrin independence, so that Serbia can finally turn its attention to itself and stop finding excuses for its foolish mistakes in others. Kasa said.
I've worked with Bosnians, Macedonians and Kosovars, and from them I gather that Serbians have spent centuries making themselves unpopular.
Cmaru jedan is how they described Serbians.
So you can't wait to sell out the last piece of Serbian land, can you, Ustashi?
What, have you run out of film footage of Albanians burning Orthodox Churches to dance to?
I'm glad you really didn't serve in the US military, you would disgrace our colors.
So you've heard one side of the story and swallowed it whole, eh? And voted for Clinton twice, no doubt.
I've heard people say some very negative things about Southerners!
Which is how most "minorities" in the US would describe middle-class white males, too. (For those of you who don't speak Serbian, the translation is "a**holes")
I've worked with Bosnians, Macedonians and Kosovars
For someone with a website that links to some of the most virulent anti-Islamic stuff I have ever seen, you seem to put a lot of stock in what Muslims have to say!
So the Serbs "should give the Hungarians Vojvodina" -- and then the last of the WWII Nazi allies would all have what they couldn't conquer on their own during WWII.
Gee, I am sure that Hitler would be smiling from his grave should that happen!
This guy has a high school diploma - that's his education. I know him because we're from the same city and I'd seen him around. Once he went to Novi Sad (the provincial capital), he rather quickly received a degree from the University of Novi Sad. Uneducated provincial loudmouth - that's what he is.
I could've kicked his ass once at a pub. Dang, I should've!
You should of made Hungarian sausage out of him.
Nonsense, Hungarians are too small minority to demand anything, only 14% according to national census 2002 .
Just my 2c.
Man those Albanians and Bosnians sure had it tough...trampling the Christian serbs for five hundred years...kind of like the slavemasters' complaints about how evil and troublesome those slaves were.
