CHICAGO, May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The following statement was released today by the Rainbow Sash Movement (RSM). The RSM will respond to the fear and intolerance of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Transgender (GLBT) persons, by many of our Catholic Bishops on Pentecost Sunday, June 4, 2006. We will be entering, with our straight allies, Catholic Cathedrals across the nation on Pentecost wearing Rainbow Sashes as a sign of identification. Some Bishops have welcomed us in the past, and we are thankful for their welcome.
Nationally our Bishops have lobbied against our human rights. Our grief is intensified because many in the GLBT Catholic Community feel alienated from the Church because of this assault on our human rights. We believe the Bishops have a serious obligation to root out structures and attitudes that discriminate against the homosexual as a person. A small number of courageous Bishops are exerting their leadership in behalf of this effort, and these Bishops will have our full support and prayers.
The Gospels reveal that, while Jesus did not hesitate to proclaim radical ethic of life grounded in the promise of God's kingdom, he never ceased to reach out to the lowly, to the outcasts of his time even if they did not live up to the full demands of his teaching. Jesus offered forgiveness and healing to all who sought it. And when some objected to this compassion, he responded: "Let the one among you who is guiltless be the first to throw the stone,"(John 8:7)
We are followers of Jesus Christ, and Catholic. This is why members of the Rainbow Sash Movement will wear Rainbow Sashes on Pentecost Sunday. We see homophobia within the Church as both an opportunity for education, and a way to promote the idea of love of neighbor. We are calling for dialogue.

Ok.. so in your opinion they flaunted it..it doesn't change the fact that homosexuality is a sin in the eyes of God. Clinton and Kennedy will be answerable before God just like the homosexuals.
What do the Mardi Gras and Las Vegas have to do with anything? The Mardi Gras as celebrated in New Orleans isn't even a recognizable Catholic celebration anymore! The French wrote an article last year in one of their papers that they were appalled by the "American" version of Mardi Gras.
As to Las Vegas.. sheez! Sunsong, you are getting off track with that one.
No I don't see Paul as God's spokesperson. I see him, though, as someone that others can learn from as they understand his struggles and realize that they can learn from them. He said some beautiful things. I especially like those that have to do with the mind and having a loving and grateful state of mind.
St. Paul is most certainly a spokesperson for God as he was chosen by the Lord Himself to be an Apostle chosen out of time. St. Peter, St. Jude also spoke concerning Sodom and Gomorrha. You can't just pick and choose out of Sacred Scripture the passages you like best. In one post you are saying the NT isn't translated correctly, in another post you say you like some of the things said in it.
Which is it? If it's not translated right you might as well throw the whole of it out because if there's some things wrong with it, all of it is called into question.
This God of Love that you have created in your thinking, please pay attention to what He says:
"Such as I love, I rebuke and chastise. Be zealous therefore, and do penance." Apocalypse 3:19
"Let him who is without sin cast the first stone." Do you reject His subsequent words to the adultress "Go and sin no more"?
Much has been made on this thread about that part of the message "go and sin no more" - and I do think that Jesus said those words or something very much like them. And I think that He continues to say them to you and I alike - "do not throw stones at others - no one has condemned you - neither do I - go and sin no more."
For me, yes, I want to live as closely as possible as I can to that which I believe is right and good - as do you as I understand what you are saying. And that means for me - do not condemn and attack others. Do not consciously harm - but instead help.
I believe that it is helpful for some people to have a lot of "rules" to guide their behavior. I have no problem with that. I have a problem with people who want me to live by their rules - especially when they aren't even living by their own rules and guidelines(g).
My view is that the two great commandments are enough if they are truly followed. For others it may be more helpful for them to have much more to think about - say for example Moslems who have so much of their entire lives determined as to what they are *supposed* to do in this circumstance and that circumstance etc. And I would not take that away from them. But, I would confront their desire to condemn and attack others - just as I would do here - with *by the book * Christians or Buddhists or those of other or no religions.
Now you are becoming rude. Do you think that that will impress me?
You are, imo, just speculating...*if* this happens *then* I'll do this. If they become violent I would support you in stopping it. If not, I would not support you in violence.
You led off your trolling of this thread by being rude. Your entire line of debate is rude. What do you expect in return?
Good for you Warsaw44. Catholics shouldn't sit in the pews with a deer in the headlights stare as activists hellbent on destroying all the Christian faith stands for come barging in our parish churches.
It's a House of God, not a politcal activist war zone.
They should be escorted to the street until they are ready to repent and act right in the House of God.
They should be escorted to the street until they are ready to repent and act right in the House of God.
What if they just come in and don't bother anyone?
We can continue saying the same things to each other, I suppose - but what would be the point?
It is a fact of living in this world that we each have to deal with people who believe very differently than we do. One of the beautiful things about America is that we are all free to express ourselves and have the freedom to practice the religion of our choice. And beyond that we can still learn from each other if we choose to.
What will the homosexual sex activists do if they are peacefully blocked from proceeding to communion?
Will they scream? Will they hollar?
What will they homosexual sex actives do if the church ushers quietly ask them to simply leave because they are there for politics and not for worship?
What do the responsible church do when confronted with this hedonists?
I certainly see how rude you are - if that is what you are asking?
I'm merely trying to respond to you in your own idiom, so you might have an easier time understanding.
Dislike intensely. If they enter my Church in their unrepentant state of sin and wrongdoing, then that's what they deserve.
They are not repentent for being sinful peoples.
What's not bothersome about homosexual activists barging into Mass openly defying Church teaching by the very banner that they have blazoned across their chests?
So you intensely dislike homosexuals because that is what they deserve?
OK FOLKS HOW ABOUT A REALISTIC PLAN TO RESPOND TO THESE DISRUPTORS?
How do you remove them from the church?
Call the police?
Post a sign prohibiting rainbow sash hacktivists from entering?
What should the ushers do?
What should parishoners do?
BE CONSTRUCTIVE because this sex promotion does not belong in a church.
What's not bothersome about homosexual activists barging into Mass openly defying Church teaching by the very banner that they have blazoned across their chests?
What if they just walk in like everyone else without banners?
Perhaps the first step would be to kindly ask them to take their protest to the street, a repectful distance from the Church. If they don't, then call the police.
Gays had Christians arrested in Philadelphia for being too near one of their events! How come it's okay to gays to barge right into a Catholic Church with their protests? Geez! Talk about getting too close.
For instance, the shedding of innocent blood is listed in the Bible as an abomination. If somebody wants to use the Mass to advertise their acceptance of abortion, suicide, euthanasia, infanticide, genocide, or even just plain ol' freelance homicide, I double-dog-guarantee you that they'd be required to leave.
Those sashes are FABULOUS!
