Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo. |
WASHINGTON Two years ago, he was as lonely as the Maytag repairman an obscure congressman trying desperately to raise the visibility of an issue he believed threatened the very security of the U.S.
More recently, he has become a force to be reckoned with, the leader of a powerful House caucus, a Republican who has taken on the president, a man respected for outspoken positions and the political force behind what has become the hottest issue in the nation.
Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., chairman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus and the undisputed heavyweight champion of the border security issue in the nation's capital, now tells the whole story of the threats facing the nation, the solutions within its grasp and his own personal quest to awaken the political establishment to the seething discontentment gripping America as a result of illegal immigration.
In his new book, "In Mortal Danger," published by WND Books, Tancredo warns that the country is on a course to the dustbin of history. Like the great and mighty empires of the past, he writes, superpowers that once stretched from horizon to horizon, America is heading down the road to ruin.
English historian Edward Gibbon, in penning his classic "The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" (ironically published in the year America's Founding Fathers declared independence from Great Britain), theorized that Rome fell because it rotted from within. It succumbed to barbarian invasions because of a loss of civic virtue, its citizens became lazy and soft, hiring barbarian mercenaries to defend the empire because they were unwilling to defend it themselves.
Tancredo says America is following in the tragic footsteps of Rome.
Living up to his reputation for candor, Tancredo explains how the economic success and historical military prowess of the United States has transformed a nation founded on Judeo-Christian principles of right and wrong into an overindulgent, self-deprecating, immoral cesspool of depravity.
His recipe for turning things around?
Without strong, moral leadership, without a renewed sense of purpose, without a rededication to family and community, without shunning the race hustlers and pop-culture sham artists, without protecting borders, language and culture, the nation that once was "the land of the free and home of the brave" and the "one last best hope of mankind" will repeat the catastrophic mistakes of the past, he writes.
Tancredo, born and raised in Colorado, represents Colorado's 6th district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to his election to Congress in 1998, Tancredo worked as a schoolteacher, was elected to the Colorado State House of Representatives in 1976, was appointed by President Reagan as the secretary of education's regional representative in 1981, and served as president of the Independence Institute. He serves on the International Relations Committee, the Resources Committee and the Budget Committee, and is the chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus. Tancredo and his wife, Jackie, reside in Littleton, Colo.
Isnt that the whole purpose of putting the word "assist" in the law.
You just stated that the word "assist" wasn't in the when it is.
Thatis what I am talking about doesnt fit uner the current law and thus making those acts illegal
I have no idea whatsoever what you're trying to say there. Try again.
"What the traditionalists don't like is the Church's reaching out to Protestants, and stating that one does not necessarily have to be a visible member of the Catholic Church to attain salvation."
Well, once again you hit upon one topic I agree with. The Church should reach out to some other "Judeo/Christian" religions and not be such an exclusive club of heaven for Catholics only. I exclude Islam from this inclusionary viewpoint as I find it to be a false, warrior religion based on jihad. Coming from a split family of Catholic/Lutheran, I know all about how divisive this issue can be. However, that "no one unless those that accept the Catholic faith can get to heaven" concept, as far as I am concerned, can be believed by those that want to, as it was the belief of the Church for a couple thousand years before it was changed during Vatican II. I just personally don't believe in such exclusivity when all Christians believe in Jesus Christ.
"Oh, and that Latin-in-the-liturgy, which should be provided for those who want it, but not forced down the throat of those who don't."
I said allow for, not force down everyone's throats. Virtually all Catholic churches do more than one mass, as you know. Therefore, give Catholics a choice. One mass in Latin, then X amount in English. It would be interesting to see how many choose one mass over the other, the Tridentine mass over the Novus ordo mass.
It really is funny, huh? I posted early in the thread and came back to check on it...but I'm so confused! LOL.
Read my profile for the answer.
"Well...are you?"
No I am not self employed or otherwise employed, DC, I am retired. I am one of those leeches who spent the best years of my life, working for peanuts in one of those cushy but essential government jobs that promised peanut butter sandwiches upon retirement. Now I discover that I am allergic to peanuts.
I will say this about small businesses or medium businesses or large businesses: If their survival depends upon free access to slaves, peons or coolies; they need to be forcefully reminded that slavery has been illegal for over a century in the United States, as illegal as crossing our borders without proper authorization.
Ah thanks for the link
all right the word assists is in the accesory after the fact law but the key is this
"in order to hinder or prevent his apprehension, trial or punishment, is an accessory after the fact"
Thats not what we are talking about. We are talking about medical aid, food clothing etc. That why they want to put the word "assists" in 8 U.S.C. § 1324
No its not where are you getting that from. You cant apply accesory after the fact to that. Thats why people want the current law changed
But if someone helps someone trespass on your property, take your rights away from you, depresses your wages--maybe there's a cause of action in civil court that could remedy that.
That's called an "intentional tort"--
If they were so clear Tancredo and others wouldnt be amending the immigration law to put "assists" in it
I am so irritated by the incessant "Tom Tancredo" posts on this site that I will do everything I can to make sure he never gets elected to anything again.
I am saying that the government knew damned well that this underground economy exists and has existed for years.
And they've ignored it. Condoned it.
The shoe fits, Dane is most definitely a Ted Kennedy butt kisser.
LOL! Now there is an intriguing turn of phrase and idea. How many Tancrenites are insisting that they will vote third party of sit out the election to teach the GOP a lesson? Wouldn't if be funny if everyone else did the same thing to their favorite candidate?
Exactly...In other words Tancredo has taken a 2 x 4 to the nations "head". Which is what should have happened long ago.....now we are at a crisis....yes, thats right!
So, you are saying if one has a problem, one should fix it. If one commits a faux pas, it should be remedied.
By using your own logic, we should deport all aliens, too! Right?
Would people who say, "Tancredo has got to tear down his theater and start over--I don't care how inconvenient it is for him", stay true to their rhetoric by saying "We should send these illegals back and start over--I don't care how inconvenient it is for the country" ?
This mantra that you have been repeating since the beginning of time to disqualify the opinions of those you disagree with is extremely silly. Besides, if Tancredo's border policies were fulfilled, you would see great production of wealth in this country once the freeloading of the illegals came to a halt. It is perhaps people like you that are an obstacle to the preservation of this countries wealth.
Over the years of illegal immigration, many have in fact been treated as slaves of old or worse.
I fully agree that the government has known about the underground economy and worse than condoning it, has actually encouraged it. Both major parties are guilty.
The problem now is that the numbers have become so astronomical, that they can no longer be ignored.
