WASHINGTON – Two years ago, he was as lonely as the Maytag repairman – an obscure congressman trying desperately to raise the visibility of an issue he believed threatened the very security of the U.S.
More recently, he has become a force to be reckoned with, the leader of a powerful House caucus, a Republican who has taken on the president, a man respected for outspoken positions and the political force behind what has become the hottest issue in the nation.

In his new book, "In Mortal Danger," published by WND Books, Tancredo warns that the country is on a course to the dustbin of history. Like the great and mighty empires of the past, he writes, superpowers that once stretched from horizon to horizon, America is heading down the road to ruin.
English historian Edward Gibbon, in penning his classic "The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" (ironically published in the year America's Founding Fathers declared independence from Great Britain), theorized that Rome fell because it rotted from within. It succumbed to barbarian invasions because of a loss of civic virtue, its citizens became lazy and soft, hiring barbarian mercenaries to defend the empire because they were unwilling to defend it themselves.
Tancredo says America is following in the tragic footsteps of Rome.
Living up to his reputation for candor, Tancredo explains how the economic success and historical military prowess of the United States has transformed a nation founded on Judeo-Christian principles of right and wrong into an overindulgent, self-deprecating, immoral cesspool of depravity.
His recipe for turning things around?
Without strong, moral leadership, without a renewed sense of purpose, without a rededication to family and community, without shunning the race hustlers and pop-culture sham artists, without protecting borders, language and culture, the nation that once was "the land of the free and home of the brave" and the "one last best hope of mankind" will repeat the catastrophic mistakes of the past, he writes.
Tancredo, born and raised in Colorado, represents Colorado's 6th district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to his election to Congress in 1998, Tancredo worked as a schoolteacher, was elected to the Colorado State House of Representatives in 1976, was appointed by President Reagan as the secretary of education's regional representative in 1981, and served as president of the Independence Institute. He serves on the International Relations Committee, the Resources Committee and the Budget Committee, and is the chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus. Tancredo and his wife, Jackie, reside in Littleton, Colo.

And as they said in one of the Death Wish movies...."Nothing significant ever can happen in your life until you're self-employed" (paraphrase of course).
I don't say we're better than anybody else. Just saying that it gives you a completely different perspective on this immigration matter.
And having personally reaped the benefits of Bush's tax cuts and the Democratic liberal government of Maryland turning a blind eye to illegals...well I just had to ask.

The church and you can bet all churches will fight any attempts that makes it a crime that churches and non profit organization have to report illegal aliens that show up at their churches or soup kitchens
Also, in reality there are no such things as illegal alien churches , or illegal alien soup kitchens, or illegal alien health clincs, or illegal alien shelters. The Church and other non profts provide this for all the ones in need and there not asking for proof of citizenship at the door. Thes services are given to all in need.
Furthermore and I should look at on a old thread on this I think there was controversy over the new house bill because it added the word "assits" to the revelant statute. Well I am not sure if that was taken out but at one point I heard King and Tancredo say the above would not be criminal and/also that hey would if need be put lanquage in the bill that would exempt churches, and other non profits.
So even they appear to think its not a god idea to have churches and other groups memebers to be arrested for these activites if memory serves me correct

Giving food and drink or clothing to an illegal alien is not a crime. Thats the reason certain people wanted to put the word "assists" into the law which the house bill did I believe and created all that controversy a few months back.
Again the word "assists" is not in current law. Thas what the controversy is about. Thats what I mean by aiding.
100 million illegals in the next seven years? Well I hope you liked republicans in the white house and congress...youll never see any there again after 2014. Those sheer numbers will also help to erode the middle class. Forget for one momment that most of those illegals are socialists/dem voters and ALSO forget that we do not have enough jobs to give to those 100 million in 7 years. And the middle class will waste away like an emaciated old man trying to keep all those illegals happy with entitlements. The government will be too busy just trying to bribe the illegals just not to revolt.

Actually, on this one small point we agree. I think the pre-Vatican II'ers take it too far, and I believe the liberation theologists take it way too far (the Marxist socialists). However, your stance on immigration associates you with the leftist socialist humanistic point of view of the liberal part of the Catholic church. I want to see a traditionalist (however, not the whacko part of the pre-Vatican II'ers) and conservative return by the Catholic church in dogma and spirituality. No more gays in the clergy, allow for the Latin mass, weed out the pro-abortionist clergy, and those that pursue other leftist agendas. And that includes support for illegal aliens' entry into our country. That's a non-starter.
I am finding the Eastern Catholic Church far more attractive these days than the too often socialistic U.S. Western Catholic church. I'm looking into that as a better home for my particular more traditionalist beliefs than the way too liberal Catholic church for my tastes, and the leftist U.S. Council of Bishops. Don't go to church to be a social worker. Rather as food for the soul. And charity where needed, not to leftist organizations.
I'll lose sleep.
Considering MANY illegals get paid under the table...what does that matter? And considering that congress is trying to grant them social security as well it will only burden it further.

Just for the record no I don't have any illegal aliens in my house.
However if some guy I go to Church with happened to have his house burn down and needed a place to stay and I found out he was an illegal alien . Well, a higher law comes in and if his family needed a place to lay their heads a few night I would let then on in. If the cops want to arrest me I guess they can.
as to the def of harbor let me review these cases that actually might support your view. I am curious how the courts have interpreted harbor. I do know that the so called sanctuary movement has some litigation on this issue and lost I thought.

P.S., there are a lot of traditionalist pre-Vatican II'ers that are not part of the Lefebvre Society of St Pius X, but want traditional values brought back into the U.S. Catholic church that has become way too liberal, as you must know.

You know, you are a real unpleasant Catholic to knock the Eastern Catholic Church which also loves and answers to the Pope, that way. Sounds like you don't like the spirituality part of church, just the activist part. Then join the ACLU. Aren't you on the wrong website? Wouldn't you be better suited and feel more at home on the DU site? I think so.
