After reading this thread I went looking.

This guy has only been able to carry this this far because the MSM and the peace movement has allowed it.

The Net will change all that and the phonies will be exposed. The question is, though, will the truth matter to the Left?

I agree 100%. The fastest way for these callers to shoot down their credibility with me is to begin by bragging about being a "Special Forces, Green Beret Ranger, recon, sniper guy." I've called talk radio shows a number of times. It never dawned on me to bring up my veteran status with the host. I guess I thought it wasn't necessary or important.

My company made the mistake of hiring one of these phoneys. He claimed USMC special ops background (very, very rare), multiple decorations in the post Vietnam era (even more rare), and top secret records (only assignments are classified, not personnel records). Myself and another manager who is an ex-unit member blew a cork when we heard what this guy had claimed. In five minutes on the internet, we had completely smoked him. I'm sure that we could do the same with young Jason.

Possibly. But though it'll take more time, I think this case is worth a FOIA request for an original DD-214.

A couple of years back a pal of mine nailed a crooked local sheriff campaigning for reelection based in part on his Vietnam War heroics.

The 2,200 readers of the Baxter Springs News have learned through its pages that their local sheriff, who campaigned for election on his record as a veteran, was dishonorably discharged for deserting his post. The story, which Hiatt pursued through a Freedom of Information query of military records, won the newspaper a Kansas Press Association award.

You get one guess which newspaperman has now had this story forwarded to....
