Jimmy Carter is Right

Jimmy Carter Is Right Amend the immigration bill to require voters to show ID.

Monday, May 22, 2006 12:01 a.m. EDT

Amid all the disputes over immigration in Congress, one amendment is being proposed that in theory should unite people in both parties. How about requiring that everyone show some form of identification before voting in federal elections? Polls show overwhelming support for the idea, and there is increasing concern that more illegal aliens are showing up on voter registration rolls. But the fact that photo ID isn't likely to pass shows both how deeply emotional the immigration issue has become and how bitter congressional politics have become with elections only 5 1/2 months away.

-- snip --

The Carter-Baker commission issued 87 recommendations to improve the functioning of election systems. ... the biggest surprise was that 18 of 21 commissioners backed a requirement that voters show some form of photo identification.

I never thought I'd agree with Carter on anything other than his appointment of Volcker and deregulation of the transportation industry.

I guess that every once in while even a blind hog will find an acorn.

If you doubt that there's a very serious problem with voter fraud, consider this: INS officials do not consider a voter's registration card as a legitimate form of identification. When returning from Canada, an American must show a US-government-issued photo ID and one other form of identification if not in possession of a passport. A copy of a 50-year-old birth certificate is okay, but a current voter's registration certificate carries zero weight. (I learned this first-hand. My passport was at some embassy getting a visa, but fortunately I brought along an expired passport in my carry-on luggage.) The only explanation for this is that motor-voter laws have encouraged illegal aliens to apply for official voter registration certificates.

Jimmy Carter was right once.

In 1978 President Jimmy Carter signed into law a bill that allowed home brewers to brew 100 gallons of beer, per household, a year.

Carter will be sure to amend his remarks to only apply to conservatives as soon as someone tells him his proposal makes sense.

I did not know that. If I find myself forced to speak well of Carter and actually make it believeable, I'll have to use that.

Carter signed into law a bill that allowed home brewers to brew 100 gallons of beer, per household, a year

Other changes in that same bill also opened up the door for 'Microbreweries'/restaurants which are now found in virtually every major city in the country.

Jimah also mandated coal as the primary fuel for all new industrial boilers vs. natural gas. He then turned around and put 90 percent of the US small (less than 200,000 tons/year) out of business.

I would presume it would have to be a valid (unexpired) photo ID too. I never carry my voter registration in my wallet. I'd rather not have a thug see my card with a stamp saying that I voted in the Republican primary in case I were mugged. Instead of showing my voter registration card, I show drivers license and am required to sign a list.

Carter thinks voters should show a photo ID! Wow! I've never heard anyone one else suggest such a revolutionary idea. Thank you Jimmy for such insight and leadership. And thanks to the WSJ for giving proper credit for this idea.

Barf.

The Wall Street Journal......another group who would gladly sell out the United States would surely agree with Jimma, who spent his whole life doing so...................

I don't think the Wall Street Journal spends much time on Carter.

I am surprised post 9/11 that you would not have to have a passport to go from America to Canada and vice versa.

Americans are always complaining of open borders in Europe but if I want to go to France or Germany I have to have a passport.

We used to be able to get a card that was valid for the day, that was withdrawn and replaced by a yearly passport which was then withdrawn in favour of 10 year passport.

Why do they agree to an ID with photo and they, the
Democratic leadership, is against the same thing for the
Voters? They must assume their cemetary voters will
be exposed>>>>>>>Jake
