A Pole wins American Inventor contest

19.05.2006

Poland’s Janusz Liberkowski has won one million dollars in the American Inventor show on ABC TV. His invention is a novel car seat protecting children in car crashes from all directions. An engineer by profession, 52 year-old Liberkowski lives in San Jose, California with his wife and one-and-a-half-year old twins. His older daughter died in a car accident seven years ago, which inspired him to work on a new type of baby car seat.

I guess I can shelve my latest invention 'til next year.

The safety of children won out over a tool to educate them.

Having seen that invention on the show, I predict that it will not actually work.

Whether it works or not is not the question. It's for the children..........

There is merit to the design, I just don't think it will be practicle to impliment. Too large, too heavy and too expensive once they really get it designed to work.

I think you can permanently shelve it. I believe the show has been cancelled.

No, sir, it's a "ROD."

I watched very litte of the show, but THAT episode (I guess it was called the 10 most wacky inventions) still brings a laugh to my kids. Whenever we want to point out the foolishness of some action, we just have to say, "You invented a STICK?" That just cracks us up.

That was the only episode I watched. I think that poor fellow was missing a few fries from his happy meal. The only invention I saw that had any real merit in my view was the device the guy invented to fill sand bags. Some question as to whether it would work - not sure one person can sling a sandbag like that.
