A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.
Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown. I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

Unchained By The Cross
READ: Matthew 27:33-50
God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 n ancient Greek mythology, the hero Prometheus was captured and chained to a mountain peak, where he was sentenced to stay forever. Each day, a giant eagle arrived to feast on his liver. Hermes came to him and said, Do not hope for an end to your suffering until a god appears as your substitute in torment, ready to descend for you into the realm of Hades. According to the myth, this was done by the wise and just god Chiron, who sacrificed himself for Prometheus and delivered him from torment.
This story is in some ways a picture of what happened for us the day Jesus died on the cross. Mankind was bound by sin, and there was no hope of escape unless God took our place. And thats exactly what happened. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on our behalf and paid the penalty for our sin. He provided a way of releasing us from eternal punishment. Were we to write for a thousand days, we still could not express the meaning of Christs sacrifice for the sins of mankind. Its full significance is beyond our comprehension.
Have you confessed your sin and asked Jesus Christ to be your personal Savior? If not, theres no better time than today. Trust in Him, and you will know what it means to be unchained by the cross. David C. Egner
Amazing thought, that God in flesh
Would take my place and bear my sin;
That I, a guilty, death-doomed soul,
Eternal life might win. Anon

Did you know anybody who died via that '67 bridge collapse? No, that happened before we moved here. We came in 92, although my husband's people were from here. One of his cousin's died in the bridge collapse. We have a River Museum here where there is a scale model of the bridge with all the vehicles placed where they were actually on the bridge (I don't know how they know). They show most of the film that was taken of the accident. There is a memorial where the bridge used to come into the town street. Most everyone who lived here at the time was affected in some way. I have a good friend who owns and runs a local restaurant who lost both her husband and her five year old son. She has never remarried, and works way too hard. She volunteers for everything. She is the woman in the film with the real black hair. She sells Mothman souvineers in her cafe. When we first moved here the "other" bridge in town over the Kanawah River was old and rickity. When that bridge would get more than six cars on it, people would stop at the onramp and wait until the car in front of them was over the hump of the bridge before they would go onto the bridge........and NOBODY would honk at them. Everyone knew the fear that the community felt, and accepted it as a valid reason to hold up traffic.

Hi snugs. I'm glad you are enjoying the Peanut Butter. It's just all natural, without preservatives etc. That is why it has to stay in the frig. I usually take out the portion that I want to use and zap it a few seconds to soften it enough to spread. The jam was made locally, but not by KET.
I've really enjoyed the Honey Roasted nuts you sent. I'm still holding out on the puddings for a special occasion. I've been under the weather so much this winter that I've not eaten much other than Chicken soup. Ha. I like the lichorise candy. Have liked that flavor since I was a child.
I trust that you are well?
