MEXICO will complain to the US government about plans to build fences and deploy troops along the border to curb illegal immigration, the foreign minister said yesterday.
Mexico has pushed for sweeping immigration reforms to help millions of Mexicans work legally in the United States but it fears Washington is more interested in keeping them out.
Luis Ernesto Derbez, the foreign minister, said Mexico would send a note protesting about plans to secure the 2,000-mile border, which hundreds of thousands of Mexicans cross every year in search of jobs.
"There are 12 million Mexicans on the other side, 12 million people who live every day in anguish about the need for a reform to let them live peacefully," he said.
The US Senate passed a bill that would see 370 miles of fences built at strategic points.
George Bush, the US president, was travelling to the border town of Yuma, Arizona, yesterday to press his case for tougher entry controls combined with reforms that would give millions of immigrants a chance to become US citizens.

Ping!
I am shocked by this new revelation.
Aren't Mexicans supposed to live in Mexico?
"There are 12 million Mexicans on the other side, 12 million people who live every day in anguish about the need for a reform to let them live peacefully," he said."
I feel their pain! Here's my advice to end the "anguish"--GO HOME!
"Reform" for illegal aliens=obey the laws of the USA and go home to Mexico on your own postehaste?
(That would be 'vamanos' in Spanish, IIRC)
Gosh, it bothers me so much that they oppose fences. I'm going to walk the block over to the canyon behind my house and ask the illegals camped out there if fences bother them!
Yes, they are really in mental pain over here. Buying houses. Buying huge trucks. Playing their Mexican music so the whole neighborhood can hear. Flying the Mexican flag. Having most of America cater to their language and culture. I don't know how people live under such conditions of oppression and stress. Don't tell Amnesty International.
It should be electrified.
Hey Ernesto! Take your note, cover it liberally with extra-hot chili sauce, fold it until it's all corners and shove it where the sun don't shine!
Well, exCUUUSE MEEEEEEEE!
If the Mexican officials are the least bit concerned about the anguish of mexicans who have to illegally enter a foreign country to earn a living perhaps they should try to fix their own country instead of trying to tell us how to run ours.
You got the idea Doug.
Oops, that would be 'vamos'--which means to depart quickly. We get our word "vamoose" from this!! Those poor mistreated illegal aliens who haven't done a thing wrong should vamos home to Mexico (or whatever country they've come from illegally) ASAP!!
That'll teach the USA to mistreat illegal aliens.
Fine. They don't like fences. We will build walls instead.
The matter of illegals is fundamental to the system of justice: what the pro-illegal lobby refuses to understand is that they are creating a precedent - they are basically suggesting that if enough people break a law, then that law is nullified. That undermines the rule of law itself.

Well, gee, that's just too bad.
Who cares what mexico thinks? Not me!!! Or anyone else I know either.
If they'd spend half as much time on economic reform in their own country they could work at home. They've got the manpower and the resources down there - there's no excuse other than incompetence.
Thanks Ivan for the thread.
I am in San Diego, the largest city in the U.S. to be on the other side of the border with Mexico. It is a war zone.
