I've already described my feelings about this on another thread. If I were your President, there would be the following layers of protection of the border: the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Electrified Barbed Wire and Concrete Wall and Man Eating Alligator Filled Moat, the James K. Polk Memorial Minefield, followed by the Sam Houston Memorial Poisonous Snakes Preserve.

The matter of illegals is fundamental to the system of justice: what the pro-illegal lobby refuses to understand is that they are creating a precedent - they are basically suggesting that if enough people break a law, then that law is nullified. That undermines the rule of law itself.

Regards, Ivan

Thanks Ivan for the thread.
I am in San Diego, the largest city in the U.S. to be on the other side of the border with Mexico. It is a war zone.

MadIvan! You are a man after my own heart! Let's get married.

(Just kidding, for I know you have already been snatched up by a good lass with some Scots blood running through her veins!)

Excellent point. Since these people feel that we don't respect the most fundamental of our laws, they will most likely go on to break others. The Senate must be held to task on this.

If I were your President

That would be better than most of other potential candidates in 2008, but the Constitution has this thing about presidents being native born Americans. However, you can get around that technicality by changing your appearance with a LOT of make-up, claiming a last name like Ramirez or Gonzales, and learning a little border Spanish. Then you just get in line with all the rest of the Mexicans and cross over the border. Once you're here and believed to be an illegal Mexican, no old rules apply and you can do anything you want.

This Homeland Security stuff has been such a bad joke. Apparently every potential terrorist is going to be found in a U.S. airport. That's why we go through all the searches, take off your shoes, etc. before we can board a plane. Plane hijackings are passe today, too high a risk. But any Arab terrorists could pass easy as Mexicans and join the border cannonball run.

It's past ridiculous, I thought real countries had real borders, but not us.

You've just stated a thought I've been trying unsuccessfully to articulate for weeks. I say we all own machine guns, and carry weapons openly. The liberals would have a COW. "But hey, guys. Everybody's doing it. So it's legal, right?"

U.S. conservatives should apply this principle to scary-looking rifles. If it works for colonizers, it should work for gun collectors, too.

Well, since the Constitution precludes you ever becoming president, you get my vote for "King."

Seriously, something you posted is really profound, and goes right to the heart of liberalism:

This is one of the tenents of liberalism. The law is nothing more than "a guide." That's the idea behind the whole "the Consitution is a living document" nonsense. As someone who is far more brilliant than I once said, "if the Constitution doesn't mean what it says, then it means nothing." Liberals believe in the "rule of man" over the "rule of law," because they do not believe in absolutes. And this is what gives liberals the ability to be far more abusive of personal and human rights, since they can overlook those absolutes when it becomes convenient to their cause.
