Sensenbrenner: Bush Turned Back on Bill
AP ^ | 05/17/2006 | By FREDERIC J. FROMMER

Posted on 05/17/2006 5:02:57 PM PDT by notes2005

WASHINGTON - Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, who has pushed a tough border security bill through the House, accused President Bush on Wednesday of abandoning the legislation after asking for many of its provisions.

"He basically turned his back on provisions of the House-passed bill, a lot of which we were requested to put in the bill by the White House," Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., angrily told reporters in a conference call. "That was last fall when we were drafting the bill, and now the president appears not to be interested in it at all."

Sensenbrenner chairs the House Judiciary Committee and would be the House's chief negotiator on any final immigration package for Bush's signature. He said it was the White House that had requested two controversial felony provisions in the bill the House passed last winter.

"We worked very closely with White House in the fall in putting together the border security bill that the House passed," he said. "... What we heard in November and December, he seems to be going in the opposite direction in May. That is really at the crux of this irritation," he said of Bush.

White House spokesman Alex Conant said Bush has been consistent in seeking comprehensive immigration reform. "He applauded the House's action to strengthen our borders and is now urging the Senate to pass a bill," Conant said.

Sensenbrenner spoke with reporters as the Senate worked this week on a broader bill that generally follows the approach Bush laid out Monday night in his nationally televised speech. That includes offering most of the nation's 12 million illegal immigrants an opportunity to eventually become citizens — an act that Sensenbrenner and other conservatives label as amnesty.

"I was very disappointed in the president's speech," Sensenbrenner said. "I think he doesn't get it."

Asked if Bush mollified conservatives in the speech by calling for sending National Guard troops to states along the Mexican border, Sensenbrenner said, "He failed in that completely."

And despite Bush's insistence that he was not calling for amnesty, Sensenbrenner said, "Well it is an amnesty, because it allows people who have broken the law to stay in the country."

"The president has repeatedly and forcefully rejected amnesty," Conant said. "Under his plan, you're going to have to pay stiff fines, follow the law, stay employed, learn English and — after achieving all those things — go to the back of the line."

Sensenbrenner did not attend a closed-door meeting between Bush political adviser Karl Rove and House Republicans, but said that some members complained to him that Rove didn't stay around for many questions or hear what lawmakers had to say.

"The overwhelming majority of those that I talked to who were at the conference believe that he dissed the House Republicans," Sensenbrenner said.

You know the profound truth?

If President Bush suddenly decided to be Democrat, he'd have higher esteem than John F. Kennedy.

"PLEASE CALL YOUR HOUSE REPRESENTATIVES"

Done, many many times. He's on our side on this one. Only one who isn't in Montana is Max Bogus.

""I'm trying to follow what you're saying, but I don't have a keen mind for intrigue. Are you implying that the WH set up the Republican House?"""

I can see how that would be difficult, even if you didn't start from my 6 and 50.

Answer is "yes."

For now. At least some "miscommunication" occurred. I think more.

And it would be a great political story.

The article that was posted here on FR this afternoon that started all the spamming of threads was on the MSNBC website. If you have more info maybe you should post it instead of dripping sarcasm about google being my friend.

Give me a break! I have no idea what else was on another thread. Your post #214, responding to my post #190, said the quote was from MSNBC. Apparently you failed to read what I posted, which was also sourced with a link. As I said, it was not from MSNBC and a simple google news source would demonstrate that to you. If you care not about accuracy, carry on!

"Consider what happened. The proponents decided they needed a "crisis" as shown by the protests - which Bush oftens mention. This was game plan from the beginning. The protests were much organized by lobby money funneled through ethnic and socialist groups. What was the biggest complaint? The "felony" charges. How do you get them in? Tell Sessenbrenner the White House wanted them."

Shermy. Do you know Alex Jones? When I first heard it, I was spitting mad that another conspiracy nut was smearing Bush, there are so many of those ... but this guy was claiming that a PR Firm out of Dallas that did work for Bush in the past concocted the whole protest strategy and that it was set up by Bush and Vincente Fox in December. He claimed a Dallas Morning News article exposed it.

I dont believe it myself, as it was really a leftist-driven protest ... but thought I'd toss the meme in the pool and see how it floats.

Another point: Amnesty will suck up so much of INS budget and bureaucracy, that what little enforcement they are doing will be squeezed to nothing.
Dont expect Congress to properly fund what ever they do.

Did you also see the Heritage Foundation (heritage.org) study shows the senate bill will create 103 million immigrants over 20 years if the guest worker program grows at 10% per year and 193 million if it is allowed to grow at the 20% max. per year. This will change the US forever. Also every job is threatened as the guest worker program applys to all jobs.

It is much better being in the back of line in the US and being able to work and live here compared to some poor smuck in Africa waiting years to get in. Thus just rewards illegal entry into the US and encourages others to do so.

that will still leave illegals who purchase fake documentation, bypassing the whole guest worker plan completely. how do you stop them?

the last thing we need - is a guest worker program ON TOP OF what we have now.

This is Clintonesque semantics to avoid calling an amensty what it is

It's classic Clinton, and if Clinton had done what Bush is doing now, most people on this forum would be screaming about it.

It's party over principle syndrome.

"I think this is a big part of what is happening. Social Security is in much more dire straights than the pols want everyone to know. One way to hide it for awhile is to let illegals with bogus SSNs pay payroll taxes which accumulate with no liability to ever pay the illegal with the bogus SSN."

UHHHH, once we make them legal then they become part of the liability pool as well. So that would make the situation worse... as would deporting millions of them.

So the Machiavellian thing would be to simply keep them as illegal immigrants, collect the Soc Sec but dont give them rights to the benefits.

IMMINENT TIPPING POINT: WHICH DIRECTION?

By Frosty Wooldridge
May 15, 2006
NewsWithViews.com

On the night of April 18, 1775, Paul Revere rode his horse from Charlestown to Lexington to warn American forces of advancing British troops. The poet Longfellow thrust the legendary ride into folklore with, “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.” Other unknown patriots including William Dawes also rode to warn of the danger facing the American militia. Their efforts promoted a successful campaign that allowed the creation of the United States of America.

”I will ride at midnight to warn the Militia and Minutemen of the towns about the approach of the British Redcoats once we have lighted the one or two signal lanterns in the belfry of the North Church.” –Paul Revere to patriot leaders and activists--Warren, Church, Dawes and Prescott in April 1775 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Paul Revere warned his fellow patriots. He and his militia succeeded. They carried out their duty to God and their country, in their time. Revere’s ride is known as a “tipping point”, whereby his action “tipped” the country toward a successful confrontation against the British. Enough people arose in the colonies to create a ‘critical mass’ that revolted against the British. In his brilliant book, “The Tipping Point” by Malcolm Gladwell, America stands, once again, at a tipping point in the 21st century. It could be defeated by illegal immigration or it could stand against it and turn against the Mexican invasion to preserve freedom, this republic, the environment and our way of life.

After Americans won their freedom, James Madison, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and other founding fathers created this nation and its unique Republican form of governance that has stood the test of time for 230 years. Never before in the history of the world have so many from every walk of life enjoyed so much personal freedom to work, worship and pursue their right to happiness.

However, America stands at a crossroads. It either controls its sovereignty by maintaining its borders against illegality or it suffers the consequences of massive population overload, balkanization, accelerating crime, educational breakdown, water shortages, economic ruin and loss of the Middle Class. In other words, the United States could become another Third World country. Which way will it “TIP”? Which way of life will become mainstream for us and our children?

Therefore, like Paul Revere in 1775, new patriots step forth such as Jim Gilchrist and Chris Simcox of the Minutemen in Arizona. New patriots who can talk stand forth like Peter Boyles, Terry Anderson and 92 year old George Putnam in Colorado and California. Jan Herron, Ezola Foster, Bonnie Eggle, Barbara Coe, Pat Saye and Judy Singer work as hard as Betsy Ross. Andy Ramirez, Peter Gadial, William Gheen, Glenn Spencer, Buddy Bishop, Luca Zanna and Lupe Moreno work passionately for their nation. None of them will be heroes to more than their families, but they preserve their country. Modern day sentinels stand guard at web sites and computer terminals across the nation. Immigration groups organize with greater power and passion.

Like those who served to bring this nation into being, today’s patriots ride to warn the nation in the early years of the 21st century. In the summer of 2006, please welcome brave men and women on modern day iron steeds that ride through hamlets, towns, cities and states to warn citizens of the ongoing invasion of illegal aliens across America’s borders.

These modern-day Paul Reveres carry instructions on “How to Stop the Illegal Alien Invasion” and will visit all 48 states and capitols on their way to Washington, DC. Yes, they ride motorcycles instead of horses, but their message echoes Revere’s ride.

For over 230 years, America’s soldiers did not die for open borders. The Paul Revere Riders stand as sentinels, as patriots, as mothers and fathers that stand for their families, their country and God. When they pass by your town, give them a cheer. They carry the hopes and dreams of all Americans who love life, liberty and the American Dream.

“We will ride, as our forefathers before us, to warn Americans in 2006 of this destructive invasion of lawless foreigners that commandeers our American Republic.”-Frosty Wooldridge to patriots to preserve the American Republic.

Conviction without action is worthless; conviction with action changes history. Paul Revere led the way in his time and we carry the torch in our time.

We need you to organize in your state in conjunction with the ride. We need to be received at your state capitols with PA systems in place or parking lots in your cities. We need motorcycle clubs, RV clubs, antique car clubs, knitting clubs, sports clubs and more to add to the line of volunteers who stand for their communities, states and nation. We expect not hundreds, but thousands of motorcyclists to join in this “tipping point” because the more we add, the greater the pageantry, the greater the impact, the faster the tipping point.

This is not a game fellow Americans. Your country stands in the crosshairs of history. You either act now or watch this nation devolve into the nightmare that is Paris, France or Los Angeles, California. You either act now or watch our English language and national anthem be turned into foreign gaggles, which will split this nation into linguistic confusion, conflict and violence.

Instead of “tipping” toward fracturing our country, let’s work toward peaceful solutions by reclaiming our nation. We must secure our borders from this Mexican invasion. Once we’ve reestablished our “house”, a strategic plan for coaching other countries toward their success and prosperity can be implemented.

You either act now or watch this nation explode by 300 million by mid century. That alone will degrade the American dream into a Third World nightmare.

We stand at the “tipping point” in history. We either secure our borders or lose our country. How do you do it? Start where you are! Explore what you can accomplish with your talents! Make a goal that you know you can achieve! Lock on to your vision! Keep a powerful positive attitude! Whatever your talent, bring it to this moment in history. Join with others like Betsy Ross, Paul Revere, Thomas Jefferson, William Dawes and others who created a “tipping point.”

If you think you’re too small to make a difference, you haven’t been in a tent with a mosquito!

At this moment, your senators close in on a guest worker amnesty that will devastate this country with 20, perhaps 25 million illegal aliens being given a path to citizenship. That path includes their wives and children joining them in our country. We could be deluged with 50 million people when all is added up. Please join www.numbersusa.com and become a faxer and phone caller of pre-written letters. You can stop this invasion.

The only thing Congress appropriated money for in 1986 was for the amnesty. The idiot Kennedy gutted funds for employer sanctions then he has the nerve to stand there and say it was a failure. Gee I wonder why? It's hard to believe anyone even listens to these blowhards in the Senate and expects different results.
