Watt arrested in D.C. protest

WASHINGTON - Rep. Mel Watt, D-N.C., of Charlotte and six other members of the Congressional Black Caucus were arrested outside the Sudanese Embassy on Tuesday while protesting the killing and starvation that continues in that African country's Darfur region.

"We will not tolerate genocide," said caucus chairman Watt. "We are saying to Sudan: `This has to stop.' "

The protesters' plan was to get arrested, Watt told the Observer, and they alerted Capitol Police beforehand that they would block the embassy entrance.

Watt said the group was advised to stay off the sidewalk -- the jurisdiction of the District of Columbia police -- and the Secret Service officers who made the arrests waited until Watt answered reporters' questions.

Then the caucus members were handcuffed, taken to a nearby police station, booked, and fingerprinted.

Ditto to your remarks.

Now if we can only get American Blacks to care about slavery in Africa.

This is surprising action for Democrats that make a living redistributing income. They can not extract funds from Africa as easily as they can in North Carolina.

We should get all Americans to care about slavery in Africa.

The Democrats COULDN'T have done this with the raping and mutilations going on years back? Oh no. That would have messed up Jesse Jackson's "whole lotta racism" PR blitz.

This is a pure publicity stunt in hopes that the players in the American Pan-African movement will get "active" here in the US. Plus, it puts these politicians OUT of their being able to comment upon other, national/domestic, matters, thereby preserving to "truth to power" campaign.

And they didn't bring Sheehan with them. Oh, we all wanna know when she's going to go down there. Oops. Can't happen. It's a schedule nightmare: Cindy protesting the WOT, and the Liberal Dems protesting genocide by blacks upon blacks.

Very messy, pr-wise.

Cynical, am I?

I've seen it all. There's nothing new in this agenda to show me that Democrats give a damned about anything but their beloved "elections" and "power". This disgusts me.

The 400,000 were killed by Saddam during the Clinton Years and therefore do not count on the Democrat Death Meter.

Mel Watt probably believes a publicity stunt is fine as long as it's "for a good cause".

The situation in Darfur is terrible, and people are generally unaware that it is a Arab-Muslim crusade against non Arab-Muslims.

The Islamo-fascist Khartoum government has majorly completed their genocide of Christians, and has moved onto the extermination of Black African Muslims in the region.

*In Steps Congressman Mel Watt*

==>Now that it is a purely racist Jihad rather than a religious jihad, the violent situation has finally caught Watt's attention.

Good solid post, TR. You are right.

And this pathetic "protest" in Africa is just another part of the Dean "vehicle for change" -- the new morality of the Democratic Party.
