I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.

"I'm clinging to a tattered optimism, for now."
Based on what?
When you get Christopher Shays, a pro-abortion Republican, and if you are a pro-life single issue voter, the only way that you should even CONSIDER voting Democrat is if the Democratic candidate is more pro-life than Christopher Shays. If the Democrat is not more pro-life than Christopher Shays, than you should do everything you can to support a more conservative primary challenger to Shays in the GOP. It's actually pretty simple.
Do you mean to suggest that the Democrats are closer to being right on the border issue than the GOP? If it wasn't for the GOP, the earlier bill would have been passed. The GOP is the only party digging in against illegals.
The solution is to continue to elect officials who are conservative, to EXPAND our conservative presence in both houses. It is NOT to weaken the GOP by allowing liberals to take power. I don't know why this is so hard to understand.
I have a quote for you, Deo et Patria. And, I'd like for you to name the source (it's recent):
"It would be nice to think that the GOP might get to enjoy a Geena Davis-style hiatus while they retune their winning formula."
Who do you think wrote this? His articles have been routinely cheered, here on Free Republic.
"Based on what?"
Bullheadedness? Naiveté? Some combination of both?
I don't agree with Mark Steyn's comment, though I have enjoyed some of his other columns. I don't think more liberal leadership (which is what we'd get during a GOP "hiatus") can ever be more characterized as "nice."
In fact, I'd like to know what about the liberal agenda for America (REAL amnesty for illegals, abortion, gay marriage, higher taxes, liberal judges, defense cuts, impeachment for Bush, abandoning the war on terror, etc.) is so appealing for Mr. Steyn.
I will always vote for the pro-life candidate.
Of course there are no pro-life Democrats or Republicans on the ticket in New England, ever. We publicly fund abortions in Connecticut. I don't move, so I bear the sin too.
You're right.
Your powers of observation seem in order.
"Bottom line: do you vote for the Republicans in 2006, or stay home, or vote third party?"
I don't like repeating myself. Go here for the answer: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1630347/posts?page=574#574
"Your answer, and that of millions of other Border Conservatives, determines the future of the Republic."
It is what it is. For further enlightenment go talk to the White House, the RNC, the NRCC, the NRSC and assorted other traitors cluttering up our nation's capitol.
From what I can see, with last night's fiasco, Bush has lost what was left of his conservative base (and that wasn't much).
Dont forget liberal packing of the CIA which we still have a major problem with from the reign of Klintonius.

Why don't you ask him?

I look forward to seeing your question published on the site and answered.
According the the FreeRepublic Poll, only 30.1% thought the speech was a good start. Any way you try to slice and dice the numbers, they come out bad for the President, and worse for our beautiful America.
"I was under the impression that you HAD to be a US citizen in order to serve in our armed forces.
This calls for the biggest WTF EVER."
If you knew anything about history, it has been happening since the revolutionary war.
Done. Hopefully he will respond.
I'll keep an eye on the site, and will be very interested in any reply myself.
Didn't mean to shake you up there. :)
That agrees with what I've seen. The percentages of Americans of Hispanic descent that are against amnesty are greater than those who voted Republican last election - at least in the polls I've seen. It only stands to reason, really. They're Americans.
I've pretty much given up on polls.LOL Talked to a "citizen" the other day that tends to lean to the left and even he asked "Just what do they think they are doing? This is OUR country!" Not much patience for them down here at all. As you may know, having lived here, it is nothing new in this part of the world.
True. Doesn't mean we should invite the rest of the world to do so, too.
THAT is VERY TRUE!!!
Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
"and almost ended up in jail."
Should have offered to do masonry work or framing on some homes. might have made a difference.
