I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim
I agree with you. People should turn their attention to enforcement in their own communities, and citizens could do a lot. Imagine using neighborhood watch and checkpoints. Apparently, we are going to have a national crackdown on seatbelts, but law enforcement can't be bothered with illegals. Whose priorities are those?
Bush needs Democratic votes - lots of them - in both chambers, to get this thing passed. I don't know what calculations you are making.
6000 X 2 boots per troop = 12,000
Heads Up
Michelle Malkin on Fox NEXT!
You underestimate the staying power and the propensity for getting around the rules that is a defining characteristic of the illegal alien population. They'll all just become independent contractors, or exploit some other such loophole.
Some of what Bush has done is posted on the whitehouse.gov site...I do hope you take the time to read it...for ex. "Since President Bush Took Office, We Have Increased Funding For Border Security By 66 Percent And Expanded The Border Patrol From About 9,000 To 12,000 Agents. Over the past five years, we have apprehended and sent home more than 6 million people entering America illegally.
You may be right. Most don't know that a Republican president also started the Enviornmental Protection Agency. That was Richard Nixon.
Most here wouldn't read them anyway...to easy to blame Bush.
">>>President Bush says there is no way we can deport 12 million people. It is just can't be done....
Mexico did!!!<<<
Applause, applause. That's the best quote of the night."
More applause. What an absolutely true statement of fact. And all 12 million are in every nook and corner of our country now, wanting to claim it as their own.
And where are the true conservatives going instead of FR. I would like to know and evaluate....but I have my doubts you are right.
That is how I vote, however, I live in Denny Hastert's district..
I couldn't believe he said that. That's worse than "won't do" because it implies that we are creating jobs specifically for illegals to sneak into our country to do.
Making Persian rugs is another "job Americans aren't doing" but that doesn't justify sneaking 20 million Iranians into the country to create a Persian rug industry in the US.
The bracero program was NOT amnesty. It had to be applied for in Mexico. It did not apply to those already here.
Amd if you don't know how many illegals there were then, your question about the bracero program is moot.
Well, if you're actually of a mind to legalize these border-jumpers, you just have them pay the 2,000-dollar fine, not any back taxes.
Well thanks, I thought it was. I just dont know what to do with it. A ping list? Its own thread? There's lots of them out there to put on it!
I was most disappointed to hear him float the canard that "some people are calling for mass deportations." Sounds like some of the real nut-case FReepers when he says that. On FOX News both King of NY and Tancredo of CO knocked that down. Of course there is a middle ground between amnesty and mass deportations. Secure the borders and apply the law to employers. He failed to say word one about the latter.
"In a year he will be beyond lame, maybe paralyzed."
More likely impeached by the Dems.
True, and what is Vincente Fox going to do to help us out with the Illegal immigration problem? Did I miss that part?
sw
Thanks! Headin' back to FOX!
