I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.

"12,000 More Federal Boots on the Border"
Correction:
Make that 6000. He said the NG will be replaced with BP by 2008.
Try reading a history book.
I disagree totally. Most Americans want something substantive done on the border, that includes independents and reasonable democrats. What Bush suggested today is more than he's suggested before, and if it's all done, it would make a significant difference. The democrats are on the losing end of this since they will oppose it, and by proxy, be opposing border security, and that will cost them at the ballot box.
Thank you...please use that post and add to it anytime you want. I only hit the highest points.
Putting Dems in control for any reason, even immigration, is nuts.
>>Excuse me! The Trail of Tears was perpetrated against the original inhabitants of this country.
You insult all Native Americans by comparing them to lawbreaking Mexicans.<<
Yeah, that's not a comparison we want to make.
Isn't LA and/or some of the surrounding municipalities ones that passed a law that didn't allow the police to ask if someone was legal or not and to not help in enforcing Fed immigration laws?
Your virtual threats won't work.
A little nip here and a tuck there, but really not much new except the National Guard idea. That doesn't impress me at all. Not enough troops, they will have no law enforcement authority (i.e., don't bother to bring your guns and, if you do, there won't be any bullets for them) and will merely be there to "assist the border patrol". He repeats the "I'm opposed to amnesty" mantra, but then goes on to talk about the need for a "guestworker program" that would allow application for citizenship (amnesty).
In other words, same old story with the newly added National Guard ploy used merely as a dog & pony show to convince the terminally stupid that he's finally serious about stopping--once and for all--the invasion of illegal aliens into this country. He isn't. He just wants to legalize them.
I would say that I'm disappointed, but it's hard to be disappointed with something you never expected in the first place.
A complete and total disaster.
I will vote for Conservatives in the Primary and for the GOP in the General.
Hopefully, my conservative candidate will win the primary and make my life easy.
But I will not stay home and not vote.
Only a useless UN-AMERICAN does not vote.
No, but he said "Jobs Americans are not doing" at least once. It's just a new way of saying "Jobs Americans won't do" but it is a little less inflammatory.
This isn't a good thing....we don't have the resources to handle these levels.
These California kooks who think no Mexican Americans belong don't even know history. And the doofus Jimbaugh or whatever is the worst. Good God, not everyone crossed the damn border at night, many of these posts do sound like the stereotype of FR the press gives.
The fact that most illegals are from Mexico does NOT mean people think Mexican Americans "don't belong." Playing the race card is a favorite ploy of Liberals and others who hate America. I see you are playing it. Everyone can draw their own conclusions.
interesting that the "penalty" is what every other applicant for immigration benefits has to do anyway!!!
Frankly, I have traveled big sections of the border region. Parts of that frontier are almost inaccessible by foot, let alone by vehicle. It would be cost prohibitive and unnecessary to put a fence across every single mile of the border.
Ah, the inconvenient facts come forth! I noticed that Bush did not address this aspect of the problem, nor did he address the Reconquista aspect (the returning of the S.W. US to Mexico via immigration of Mexicans). Guest workers could be a good idea if one didn't have to worry about some of them agitating for Reconquista while they worked here.
I have been listening to Dobbs hosting on CNN. It is now the top of the hour and I will certainly be switching to avoid King. I wish we could deport his worthless a$$.
So your ideal of a thoughtful site is one where you call people that disagree with you, "hot-heads and blow-hards", my; how intelligent!
